We're not alone on this planet and don't give a fukk about the millions of complex life forms we're eradicating

and you would most likely be right.I think there is still a long long way to go before we can create portals that can bend space and time
and you would most likely be right.
A) We need to discover the breakthrough, if it even exists.
B) We'd have to be able to engineer the tech that uses it.
Static electricity was first noted 2400 years ago.
Nearly 300 years ago Benjamin Franklin proved static electricity and Lightning were the same thing
Maxwell's Equations were nearly 200 years ago that set the ground work for radio waves and transmitting signals (that can be converted to data).
We now have computers and many believe we're at the limit of what we can do with radio waves/rf and need something new.
If we manage to make a crazy discovery today, there's no guarantee we won't be able to make full use of it for centuries. Especially with how complex funding is. Historically, major discoveries are actually a small pieces.
Looking at the moon and finding a fascination with going there, understanding it, etc. is one thing.
Discovering the fabrics of the universe that you don't even know how to observe in the first place is a whole other.
Assuming that all this were possible, to create such a portal it would require a lot of energy that we do not have available on earth, and yet there would be no way to predetermine your path once you enter it.
You are more likely to be trapped inside it forever, as we can see in black holes when once you pass through the event horizon.
I saw this experiment years ago, we are still light years away from teleporting physical objects from one point to anotherThe bending of time/space by humans has already happend on a smaller level. Some researchers are thinking of using the technology as data security.
Time/space is truly a fabric...the researchers were able to transfer data from one end to the other while hiding it temporarily... they bend/fold the fabric like you're folding a blanket (or bending paper even)and hide the data, open/straighten the fabric/blanket and it's at the other end of the fabric/blanket.
IN space movies that's how the hyper space theory works. Bend space/time basically pulling your location closer to you like pulling our socks from the other end of hte blanket closer to you.
