Johns was almost solely responsible for the inclusion of the completely wasted (and pointless) Sinestro Corps setup for no other reason than that was his story and he wanted to get to it as soon as possible. That's why I still don't trust Johns in this role because I don't believe him able to rise above his own interpretations and ideas of what he thinks the characters and the stories should be.

Hell, there's an infamous fan letter by a pre-writer Johns from the mid-90s where he suspected Superboy was a clone of Lex Luthor, but was told to be wrong. When Johns ended up writing for DC, one of the first things he did in Teen Titans was change Superboy's origin so he now had Lex Luthor's DNA in him.

There's going to be serious backlash if Affleck's Batman solo film isn't dark. But, Affleck is a very serious actor and director, I don't see himself allowing a Batman solo film that isn't dark. Affleck was a big fan of Nolan's Batman films. So hopefully Affleck will keep the solo Batman movie tone serious.

There's a big difference between "dark" and "serious". That's what Snyder (and a whole bunch of comic book writers in the 90s) never got. You can tell a serious story without having to resort to making it all dark and gritty because it's not the tone that makes the story serious, it's the content.

Suicide Squad was good but it could have been great
This whole backlash is creating a circle of cray for the filmakers on one hand you want to be seen as the studio that lets directors tell their own story but then when the box office comes back its a problem and changes need to be made compromising the directors vision
That's the main problem with the DCEU they are just too reactionary

The BO isn't the problem, especially when all these movies are getting bashed critically but making money back. It's the storytelling, writing and last minute editing. I read Ayer's original SS script and it's pretty much what we got, if it would've been released instead i'm sure it'll still have a rotten score, maybe a little higher. Ayer fukked up when Hardy dropped out so he rewrote the script with Will having the majority of the screen time

Light hearted, dark....who cares? I just want a good movie.

I didn't think "Superman V Batman" was as bad as critics said but it was pretty fukking bad. I never really spoke on it here because I seen it a while after it came out and the thread was already a few pages back. But yeah....they need to figure out what works for them and build towards that. To DC's credit I haven't seen "Suicide Squad" yet.

Y'all should have more faith in Johns. He's giving us DC Rebirth which has been brilliant comic book shyt. It's killin the game right now. It ain't gonna have the tone of the MCU, hope isn't about jokes and levity, it's just about good guys being superheroes and protecting their domains

The worst thing about WB is how fukking fickle they are.

Their initial reaction to BvS was absolutely right, "it's 2016 who gives a fukk about the critics". That doesn't mean they should totally ignore the feedback, people obviously love the Directors Cut more than the WB cut, and reading about the Suicide Squad meddling they obviously didn't learn their lesson. But overall audiences liked the movies and they made bank, learn from the mistakes and keep it moving.

It's hilarious that they're blaming Snyder when he breathed life into Superman and set up this universe, the biggest complaints about BvS/SS are due to WB themselves fukking with the movies.

People really need to stop with the whining over Batman killing people in BvS like it was new and shocking thing.
I watched the Tim Burton Batman last weekend and that version of Bats made Batfleck look like a Girl Scout.
Burton had Batman murdering dudes left and right. Just before confronting Joker at the parade Batman used a remote control to drive the Batmobile into Joker's factory hideout that was full of henchman with the express purpose of getting all the henchmen to surround the Batmobile so he could set off a bunch of bombs that blew the entire place to hell.
Cold-blooded murdering Batman has been a staple of big screen Batman movies since 1989.
