Yeah, that's what I'm going to do.

Last time I was looking into this, this was the cheapest dual-band router I could find. I see why.

nikka you fukkin up.:smh: NEVER go cheap on your router. Narrow down the features you need and then pick from one of the top 3 or 5(check the ratings and reviews).

Also i'm confused how many devices do you have that use internet and how are they connected? I'm big on everything being hardwired but especially the consoles when ppl do online gaming. You can do that thru the router with the ports on the back. I don't know what your house/apartment layout looks like, do u have an upstairs or its all on one level?

Seems the issue you're having is common with that router. My RT-N56U has been flawless for well over a year now. I would definitely recommend it, but understand you may be averse to another Asus given your current problems. But to be fair it does use completely different hardware than the N53. At ~$100, it's not a bad a deal for a quality dual band gigabit router.

:manny:

It worked well when it worked though.

Wireless gaming is the only option for me. I actually tried using another router as a bridge before, but I couldn't get it to work consistently with the DD-WRT firmware so I returned it and just got an Xbox 360 Wireless adaptor.

My router/connection to the cable is upstairs in my office, I have a Roku in the bedroom across the room, I have a PS3 in the living room, and another PS3 and Xbox downstairs in the mancave. I can't hardwire this shyt breh
:aicmon:

My connection and ping is fine with my ISP. And my PS3 downstairs stays at 100% signal strength and I've had no problems playing fighting games online with minimal lag (again when the shyt worked).

EDIT: As far as devices, 2 PS3s, 2 smart TVs, 1 Xbox, 2 cellphones, 2 laptops, a tablet, a roku player. Prior to this shyt acting up, everything got a great signal and ran smoothly. Whenever I streamed anything it was in the highest quality available.

:wow:

Hmm, I remember reading up on that 1. It's pretty popular. I'm a cheapass though :mjpls:

I'll have to see if any of the stores around here have it before I order it off Amazon.

There's a couple of routers on the market who come with DD-WRT out the box or main selling point is that they officially support it. Cop one. If not STFU already and have this thread closed.

Yeah you can. You just don't want to...heh. I finally broke down and did my place a little while back. Cost about $75 for the switch and cables (monoprice). I wired the living room, front and back of master bedroom, media room, and guest room. It was a bytch, but man, whenever I need to transfer anything those gigabit speeds have me all .

I've learned that you can go cheap on the router if it's Tomato/DD-Wrt compatible. A lot of the casual router reviews are based on firmware that's on it. There are cases where good hardware is held down by a bullshyt firmware. I agree that you should search for your desired features and you still should do massive research (i.e. how well the new firmware performs on that router) but cost becomes less of a factor. My last router was a 20 buck refurb that is ddwrt compatible. It was rated poorly because of firmware issues. Slapped ddwrt on it and threw it next to my PS3 and it has been working like a charm.

Also agree with the hardwire suggestion especially for the PS3's shytty WiFi card (at least on the fat one).
