if you brought Euro streets here people would be running down cyclists. And a lot of lazy fat ass people don't care to have an active lifestyle. Even in Canada drivers hate cyclists and feel they own the road or have more right to em. Will block bike lanes any time they fell like it or try to run you off the road when there isn't one. Some years I don't even touch my bike because people are always getting killed. I have many close encounters. I resorted to just biking off main roads and hitting dedicate bike trails.
That's another one to point at. Paris changed overnight with the right leadership. They reclaimed the streets from cars, and it's been wildly successful.Paris is a racially diverse city and they're very bike-friendly.
I had a trek bike...brand new and seen a breh walking on the street and just gave it to him. I have 0 room and due to my disability I cant ride a bike anyway...waste of money. That thing was so fukking fun too and only 12lbs lightWanted to buy a new Trek bicycle since my last one was during the Pandemic. Looked at the prices on road bikes and was disgusted. I could buy a small car for that amount.
Doesn't it barley snow in Amsterdam, I heard their canal barley freezes.
Whoa trying to bike in -20 degree weather
Was seeing the same thing. Years out of the pandemic, got an old Schwinn World from the '80s with friction shifters that runs like a damn champ. Not paying for the new stuff as a hobbyist.Wanted to buy a new Trek bicycle since my last one was during the Pandemic. Looked at the prices on road bikes and was disgusted. Paid $599 for mineI used to ride a hybrid trek bike, absolutely loved it. Could get around a lot of neighborhoods in LA faster than the cars could.
I'm surprised y'all talking crazy prices, I think mine were around $400 in the late 1990s and early 2000s and they were fantastic.

What happens when a blizzard comes to Amsterdam? We found out this month, when storm Darcy hit the Netherlands.
"No doubt the highest priority for snow clearing was the bicycle paths. I saw at least five bicycle path snow plows for every road snow plow."

fukk that. I’m biking w/ the blick.if you brought Euro streets here people would be running down cyclists. And a lot of lazy fat ass people don't care to have an active lifestyle. The Netherlands had all of the same dumb ideas/thoughts we had in the 60s/70s, but they went the right way:Some of the suburban sprawl cities might be too far gone for real biking infrastructure but it's no reason why older more dense cities don't improve
My city is trying but it's so much push back from the public. There's this whole thing in my city where people don't realize/understand that bikers are supposed to ride in the street . Which causes them to get road rage. Every year double digit amount of bikers die. Any and every bike infrastructure that is done gets criticism online and whataboutism attacks "why they building bike barriers when we need money for xyz"
Infrastructure that cost money + minimal public support + hostile ass drivers = horrible experience being a biker in my town
