B, b, but NFL games are on free TV and easy to access.

NFL = Not For Long. If Netflix got that bigger bag which you know they will, Goodell and the owners won't turn that down. The irony is that CBS did their Christmas games for them.

This will never happen. FOX just gave tom a 370 million dolla 10 year contract. CBS would be dead without the NFL.

I'll personally duff @Roger Goodell if he even considered this

Most ridiculous contract I've ever seen. Not one ounce of experience and instantly becomes the highest paid announcer :dead:

Again, they can put 2 Coli nikkaz up there and people would watch. Severe overpay but get that bread Thomas.

The more the NFL tries to make its games exclusive to streaming platforms, they will slowly lose ratings.

The cream of the NFL rating crop has always been the fact that they are one of the only major sports leagues that, 95% of the time, broadcast their games on free over-the-air, antenna, etc, TV.

I still remember from a couple of seasons ago, a Playoff game between the Chiefs and Dolphins was exclusively on Peacock and received its lowest-rated playoff game.

Ratings don't matter to them as long as the check clears especially if streaming is where people pivot anyways.

Network television is a dying medium and there's no other way to spin it.
Ratings is just a means of generating revenue...and its an outdated one at that. Content is king right now. And if you can get right to the money up front why go through the song and dance? Look at the NBA ratings people been going on and on about for years. Now look at how you had all these networks bidding and the deal they got. NFL should be able to get 3, 4, 5 times that.. again without selling one ad. I was just talking to my bros about how its a matter of when, not if, in regards to a streaming only SB. I give it another decade.

Netflix is much better financial situation than either FOX or CBS. If Netflix, Amazon, or Apple wants a Sunday afternoon package, they are likely to get it imo. Don’t be surprised if this happens. I could also see MNF going to one of these networks too as Disney has wanted a Sunday afternoon package in the past too. It’s gonna be interesting how NFL slices up the package in the next TV deal.
Yes and no. In 2029, broadcast will still be king. Maybe when the baby boomers die off, steaming will truly take over.

Now, does the NFL want international bread? That’s the question. Netflix can provide that as a partnership. NBC provides that. Idk if Fox or CBS does.

Smart money says, NFL keeps all Sunday games on broadcast and maybe Sunday Night, Monday Night can go to streaming.

I wouldn’t be surprised if NFL gives a Sunday package away to streaming though. By 2040, broadcast will be done.

Facts.

Netflix has a history of canceling very good shows because the budget was out of their comfort zone (looking squarely at you Marco Polo). I could see them making a play for it, but not sure they got the stomach and money to pull it off.

We know for sure if they DO get it, they'll lock it behind some special tier or just raise the prices on everyone by $5+. They will pass the cost directly to the consumer instead of eating it like a legacy network.
True, but Netflix has 19 billion for content. More than most networks combined. Now a lot of that is for international and movies but they can make less expensive movies to accommodate an NFL package.

I just listened to a podcast with the head of content of Netflix. She said, she’s “not in talks with the NFL”. Technically the NFL packages aren’t available but they can opt out and start shopping again.

IMO Netflix isn’t ready but maybe they try to get Monday night.

The crazy thing is Tom adds no value. Who says, “Fox has Tom so I will watch.”? Nobody. We watch games regardless of who’s in the booth. I’d rather pay somebody 5Ms than paying Tony Romo 17Ms to be in the booth all day.

Who is the worst announcer and have to turned off a game to avoid to listen to him?

Take this into account, CBS through Paramount is in the process of being sold to Skydance and FOX has the Murdoch family stake drama. We don’t how that will affect whether either company has the money to fight off a streamer or even Disney for the package. Also, they may be willing to lose some inventory (for example not having a Championship Game every year or licensing off some regional games) to make the cost for palatable. I think the nature of these package will change for sure.

Skydance is Ellison money right? His money is long and he’s about to die. His son is smart and I think he has passion to run a network.

Trump has his hands in if the deal will happen though. The current owner “probably” has to pay him off to secure the deal. Crazy thing is she’s a Trump supporter and he still has his hand in her pocket.

Trump is a motherfukker.

Yep, like I said a lot can change with the rights and networks imo. I could see CBS for example wanting MNF over Sunday afternoon since they only be producing one game instead of 5-7 a week due to cost. But you had to ask which of CBS or FOX will retain their package, I would say CBS since idk if Murdochs will own FOX in 4 years.

This will never happen

NFL will always keep their main packages on broadcast tv

best Netflix can hope for is outbidding YouTube for Sunday Ticket during the next negotiations

Its not happening

espn tried that 15-20 years ago and they took less money to keep their main Sunday packages on broadcast tv and told them nikkas they could only get Monday Night Football

They aren’t dumb like the NBA

they know the biggest audience and the most ad money is on broadcast tv
