Nikkas talked about his rapping but Master P practiced and preached black ownership to the fullest

Them crackas tried to get him in the same type of bullshyt contract they got Dave and countless other starving artists in and he outsmarted them

P finessed a record deal that will never again be duplicated

They will never EVER let anyone do what P did again

He's not even funny anymore, he's beyond that. He's deep. It's like he reached a point where he doesn't need to make jokes to get his point across.

Very interesting.

A lot of you cats always shyt on musicians asking for their money after a bad contract but now you ride fir Chapelle? :usure:

This is for all of the people who disagree with me: Do you expect every contract given to the "little person" in the entertainment business to be fair or equitable? Do you expect every time you shop an idea to networks that they want to take it and give you a big contract regardless of the situation? Do you expect if you do not like something in your contract that you signed (especially after a lawyer reads and explains to you the terms) 5/10/20 years ago, that the network you signed one with would draw up another contract with what you want out of it?

We all know the entertainment business can be shady/cutthroat with deals but that does not mean you have to sign whatever they offer you. You can try to negotiate the particulars of the contract and if that fails, then do not sign. Even though it is not the same industry i knew someone who accepted a shytty wage for a job that others including myself negotiated much higher wages for the same job. They thought it was unfair (which it was) but that is what they accepted. You negotiate for what you believe you deserve and if the group you are talking to does not want to budge, then leave and find someone else to try and work with.

It's not back stabbing...it's an agreed upon contract...

If I sign a contract that says a company can use my name and likeness forever...I expect them to use my name or likeness... forever...

Company Central is still rolling in money over the chapelle show...so no...they actually didn't do bad business...

I swear Dave Chapelle is turning into for black people what Donald Trump turned into for white people...

The situation is crazy if you think about it. When you're that young professional needing to get paid, you take these crazy deals, because you need the money. You don't know if you'll be successful or not, so you can't negotiate a better deal. If you don't take the deal, you starve. But if you take the deal and become successful, you won't make the "big" money because of the contract. So, either you take the contract or you don't. If you don't, you won't have the TV show. Without the TV show, you might not become successful and famous. But if you take the show, you'll sign away future profit. So, what should you do? :jbhmm:
This is truly a fcked up situation to be in

What system? Again business is not fair or moral, it is business. We always hear about the people complaining after the fact about their contracts, but never about the people who say no to contracts they feel is unfair. He did not have to sign the contract; he could of pitched it to somewhere else or did more shows/specials/movies until he had more negotiating power or something else. No one forced him to sign and that is that.
I agree with you in that Dave signed the contract and if not for comedy central’s platform and resources we may have never heard the Dave chapelle name. It’s his talent but it’s their platform otherwise he could have just been another funny comedian. If the show failed they would have took the financial loss not him.

On the other hand, if the entertainment lawyers are working in collusion with the entertainment companies like Dave alluded to than it is a system. No one forced him to sign but it is the law to do business “in good faith” The same reason a woman can sign a prenuptial agreement and have it voided if she can proved she signed “under duress” There’s a famous black YouTuber going through a divorce and it’s in federal court now because the wife, members of the court and HIS divorce lawyer were allegedly working in collusion with one another to take his money. The only people that can sit down and understand these entertainment contracts are lawyers. He did the smart thing and hired a professional. The agencies and entertainment companies are notorious for working together to screw black talent. All of these white entertainers get to retire wealthy off of their work but not ours.

I agree but the one thing i would say is get your own lawyer regardless if your agency has one for you or not. Once i hear anything about not being able to use my name for anything, that is getting taken out of the contract or i am walking, regardless of my financial situation.
