I love to see positive representations of Black people but I don’t like to see shows where Blackness is the center of every punchline/joke. There are more intelligent to ways to highlight race, cultural norms, and cultural divides than the low hanging fruit jokes in that trailer. Classic shows like The Cosby Show, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Martin, Family Matters, Moesha, etc. didn’t need to do that.

The title for his shows are also objectively corny.
:hhh:

Exactly. Every scene/joke for some reason has to be a "Let me show you how black I am or how awkwardly black I am" gag.

People would accuse the creators and writers of being c00ns.

Moesha wasn't a classic.
They probably would regarding a black its always sunny in Philadelphia but that's only because cats really think black can be one fukking way. If its not you're a c00n but this same dudes will be bytching if someone non black lumps them in all together. Crazy thing is cats don't even see how dumb they look doing that junk.

I probably won't be watching. I don't know why they can't produce a simple normal Black show. I was listening to someone on Roland Martin's youtube channel debate the whole Kobe thing and she made a very poignant point. The average Black male perspective is never portrayed in our society. I'm happy for the Black actors in this show, but I've seen it before. In fact, not only have I seen it, I've lived it. Crazy how there were more authentic Black characters on tv during the 90s than there are now. I'm so tired of these goofy shows. And I'm tired of Black people and Black families being whitewashed for American culture. That's why I decided to read more books. You watch to much shyt like this and you start to conform to what popular society wants Black people to be. I'll start paying attention to mainstream Black shows when they are willing to show us as real human beings. Reminds me of James Baldwin's essay, "Everybody's Protest Novel." Crazy how Black people just being themselves can't get on tv. Like why are there no tv shows about gentrification or institutional racism or a Black family that goes to a white neighborhood and refuses to conform?

All these shows portray Black people in a vacuum. You'd never watch one of these shows and hear a debate about MLK vs. Malcolm X or W.E.B. DuBois vs. Marcus Garvey. Or the validity/justification of the Black Panthers. You'll never see Black parents try to talk their kids down from going out and protesting after a police officer shoots their best friend. So no I won't be watching. This is Black people the way White people want them to be: neutered, weak and servile.

Why does every black show have to have the word black in it?
Cuz they're tailor made for white people's taste. That's what these goof ass nikkas will never understand. FUBU content doesn't exist in today's media landscape besides rinky dink internet shyt.
