My ex was dealing with Fibroids when we were together years ago. That was my first time hearing of them. And just a few weeks ago, I linked up with an old friend and she said she was battling with them too. And now this pops up on my twitter. I was like wow. I feel like scientist knew perms were harmful for Black women but continued to let these companies prosper from it. From a young age I knew that the smell of a Perm was too strong to put onto your body. And just the whole process just threw me off. I think nature makes bad things smell irregular for us to be cautious of it. Another thing that bothers me is birth control, just seems too powerful. My girl has been dealing with kidney issues the past 2/3 year and she's been on birth control for a long time. I feel like that might be the root issue, but i'm not a scientist. I do know that Doctors take more risk with Black people, especially women. Overprescribe and Overdose them. One of my female friends went thru hell delivering the baby. Doctors be experimenting on Black women and men.

I know we talk crap about our women but this is serious. We have to take care of our bodies and minds better. They killing us. Processed foods, high sodium, high fructose corn syrup. They make us sick with the foods, then force their medicines on us while killing our pockets, as they slowly kill us.

Perms, and birth control and fibroids have been a thing now that plenty of black folk spoke out about...bjt they were attacked on policing black women hair.

Im glad the information is out there now, so we can stop this self hate and enjoy the hair out of our women's scalp.

But those dont hear.....shall feel....

Love yourself

Are they killing us or are black women killing themselves with internalized self hate? How many will stop using these chemicals to straighten their hair even after knowing how dangerous they are?

A lot of our sisters didnt' know any better. I'm 41, I remember my cousins getting perms when we were like 10. Thats like 1990. They didn't know anything but their mom was making them pretty. Some girls were getting them at like 5 years old.

Now with the internet, you can research things a lot easier and quicker, so theirs more self accountability.

This 100% on black women. They made it a mission to attack any black man that mentions anything about how they do their hair or anything to do with black womens hair. They attacked Chris rock for his documentary good hair and he specificaly talked about the dangers of relaxers and the chemicals used in them in that film and that was over 10 years ago. They didnt care it was killing them then and probably still wont care now. They shut down any conversation on the topic so they own this problem.

The shock at the chemist when Rock told him that black folks put sodium hydroxide in their hair to straighten it.

Chemist: "Why would they do that?"

Rock: "To look white."

Some women are in the know. They have to hop one from shampoo/body wash to another because the companies keep selling out when they get successful. It affects their PH and everything. That’s why I don’t buy anything from the companies that make old spice or Irish spring. That formaldehyde and sulfate is sketch. Some of mainstream products accelerate hair loss and cause cancer

I get what’s in at the salons and switch products when the women switch

Dudes that are quick to criticize overlook how perms and much of the self hate is a taught thing. Being snobby and critical is a big part of why a lot of folks tune out the pro black talk.

Let's be real.

Women face an onslaught of pressure to look their best starting from a young age. Peers, bullies, media, posters, movies, etc. telling them to change their body in order to look good, so they turn to diets, makeup, haircare, skincare, working out, etc. all in the hopes of fitting societal standards. That's just WOMEN.

Then black women face the same, but get the added bonus of seeing mostly white examples of beauty, and are sometimes specifically exposed to the idea that the opposite is unattractive. Add in c00ns tap dancing and putting down black women, add in people like fresh and fit saying they don't like dark skinned women, add in their zaddies hooking up with white women.

I sometimes get on about the gender war stuff on here, but when it comes to serious topics like this it is 100% understandable why black women resort to stuff like this... I don't want to hear some "just accept yourself" nonsense - because while it may be that simple, it is absolutely NOT that easy for them. Not even close.
