Making these players wear suits and not give flamboyant hand shakes makes all the white people buying tickets more comfortable. Yet NFL doesn't pull stuff like this with its players.

Have you seen their on the field dress code?

Plus they're faces are hidden by helmets for most of their camera time.

Basically......

This is another one of those measures put it place to downplay the fact that the majority of the league is black.

Stern is well aware of the "Image problems" the league has and is constantly taking steps to fight against it.

the thing is the league has NO image problems, its in the best shape its been in years.

Stern just likes to ruffle the feathers and let it be known that HE still runs things from time to time.

This is dumb to me because the NBA wants to sell "the show." I didn't even think the handshakes were a problem. Bron's chalk toss is damn near iconic, it's been in so many commercials.

cism.

The NBA does have image problems. They're making money but the image problems persist. Just look at the way "average" fans talk about NBA players. Whenever people talk about why they don't watch the NBA it always boils down to the perception of players.

Yall are dumb calling cism. Its about expanding money and this shyt doesn't look professional when you have grown men acting like a middle school basketball team. Add that to the fact that all that shyt they do is corny, and a ploy for more attention, I think its a good look. :manny:

Especially D wade who thinks hes the rock running around the 4 corners of the ring climbing the rungs and asking the crowd if they can smell it :comeon:

Man, no one thinks any less of these players because they like to do pregame rituals except perhaps you.

And it certainly isn't taking away any money from anyone. If anything, it's becoming more popular in the mainstream, like Nike having commercials of Bron throwing chalk in the air, or 2k13 allowing you to emulate pregame rituals in MyCareer.

But play devil's advocate. :mjpls:

a bunch of redneck honkeys who'd rather eat pulled pork sandwiches and drink budweiser while watching nascar events dissing the NBA doesn't mean it has image problems.

the NBA is in good shape holmes, great players who actually wanna play, work hard and win unlike the starbury/iverson/vc/tmac era. Stern nitpicks from time to time to fire up the players thats all.

I never understodd the concept of taking away entertainment value from entertainment. It's the same way I feel about the TD celebration rules. I say let them do whatever they want as long as it doesnt delay the game.

It's actually hypocritical when you realize that the NBA extends timeouts in order to fit in more commercials. 20-second timeouts taking a minute and a half.

No, it's the more affluent fans who are making the most noise about the players. Those are the fans that Stern and the owners listen to the most.

And I'll say again, just because the league is profitable doesn't mean it's not dealing with image problems. Major League Baseball has significant image problems right now and that league makes more money than the NBA.
