Ja Morant and Anthony Edwards would be massive draws if this was remotely true. Ratings were in the gutter during that "Real nikka" era until Stern took matters into his own hands and cleaned up the league's image.

Public interest has been waning ever since KD joined the Warriors but a combination of the pandemic, devastating injuries and team hopping is why it's currently at an all time low.

The NBA has always been a star and narrative driven league. It's going to need another transcendent Superstar and Dynasty to get people tuning in again. The League has been extremely fortunate to have Bird, Magic, Jordan, Kobe, Bron and Steph as ambassadors for the game in quick succession. We don't have a guy in that mold right now.

I thought Flagg could be that guy given all the hype but he doesn't seem to have the game and skillset to take over that mantle.

The easy reason should be that there’s too much entertainment directly accessible right now. From YouTube, Netflix, social media, online video games, can even watch highlights of all games on demand, fukking streamers etc.

So many people don’t really care about any random game that only has 1/82 impact. Same with NHL and even worse with MLB. The form of entertainment just loses against other forms.

Then of course regular seasons being pretty boring and there being no story lines. I saw a clip of a random midweek regular season game (allegedly) of Jordan dominating Admiral and Duncan. shyt felt like the finals in 2024.

Also basketball has often been driven by stars, the star power just isn’t hitting like that among casuals in relative terms.

NBA ratings are down because we have options and we don’t want to see this soft shyt, straight up.

I’d rather watch any boxing fight I missed, sumo, poker then watch these meaningless ass games where teams aren’t playing near potential.
