LeBron should have punched Korver in his face, instead of the whiteboard.
Perhaps if Korver was a little fearful of LeBron he would have hit some shots in the finals.
Exactly. This here is the main point Kobe was trying to make. That is why he included the part about confrontation being necessary to being a good leader. And how it isn't always pretty.
There has to be a degree of fear of the best player on the team by the rest for the team for them to play at their highest level. And if you don't get this, then you've never played competitive sports in your life. I know when I was younger, I liked to play ball in the park with older kids. Because they were older and not my friends, I played with a level of fear in those games. I was extra focused to not mess up so that they wouldn't get mad and not let me play with them anymore. If I was just playing with my friends and we're not really scared of one another then the approach to the game is way different. You don't have the extra level of fear to not mess up motivating you to play at a higher level. That is the point Kobe is making.
You can't just have individualized hand-shakes with all your teammates and call that leadership. You can't just pat them on the back. Or do that passive aggressive shyt LeBron does when he's mad where he doesn't directly confront the situation but rather talks vaguely around it. That sort of leadership doesn't inspire the right level of fear by your teammates where they play at their highest level possible. You best believe when Kobe and Jordan's teammates were out there on the floor with them in the NBA Finals, they had way more fear of their leaders than the Cavs have of LeBron. They know if they mess up like JR did in game 1, all LeBron is gonna do is pout on the bench and punch a whiteboard in the locker room. If JR did that with Kobe or Jordan, he knows he would have a black eye waiting for him the locker room cause Kobe and Mike were gonna punch him in the face rather than a whiteboard. And its that healthy level of fear of the leader that would have made JR not fukk up like he did in game 1 if he played with Jordan or Kobe.
LeBron simply doesn't inspire a healthy level of fear in his teammates to make them play at their highest level.
