Here's why this whole convo is so stupid.

Didn't the white man popularize cars, computers, sneakers and almost every got damned thing we own.

So if no one can 'appropriate' another culture, why do we get to wear baseball caps, suits, watch TVs, own guns on and on and on.
Appropriation has more to do with history than just that. It's not okay because up until 50 years ago, the law of the land was to steal and and subjugate native people from around the world for Euro imperial benefit. They nearly obliterated all natives, raped them, stole their kids, introduce poisonous alcohol, all across the Americas, then they want to dress up as a sexy Slave native girl or a drunk Indian on Halloween? Appropriation. They shipped millions of Africans to this hemisphere as slaves, killed raped and subjugated them, then they want to dress up as black face at a frat party? Inappropriate. NO MINORITY has come close to doing what they have done to people AROUND THE WORLD. A black Person wearing a fukking tie to go to work or owning a tv to watch the news is not the same lol. Maybe if past relations weren't riddled with blood and greed, them dressing up as us( which NOW is to laugh at us or get a boner or communicate that we are dumb) wouldn't feel like a slap in the face.

A white person moving to the African safari and living in traditional homes and using native tools to hunt and kill food isn't appropriating. I don't think wearing braids is appropriating because Vikings had elaborate hairstyles involving braids. I don't think hair is a problem at all unless you're trying to communicate a message involving mockery.

And the Bering strait theory is just that a theory. Cacs claim that every native American group came to the Americas through that but how do they explain Samoan looking native Americans like the Oholne from the Pacific Northwest. I guess some Polynesians crossed the Bering strait to get from the Pacific Ocean to california:mjgrin:These nikkas will believe anything a cac tell them.

Native Americans have their ultimate origins in Asia, some of them passed through Eurasia and the Middle East(think of Siberians and how they look like Eskimos) on the way over here, where they mixed a bit with those populations over there, then continued on their way towards North America. That's why some are light-skinned, and other tribes are darker. The latest genetic data proves this to likely be the case.

Meh,

I don't see anything wrong with what she said. She explained herself well and made it a point not to be anti-black in her comments. And a quick glance at her profile you can see she goes after white people doing the same thing constantly. So it's whatever, if people want to dish out the cultural appropriation argument they need to be able to take it back as well.

Unless I'm reading wrong it seems that the native American girl actually agrees that YES, there are/was Native Black Americans

So why are WE arguing against this? :jbhmm:
She did, I apologise I didn't see that, even tho it was in response to another tweet.

That twitter thug is more white than native American. She also fails to address that most of the modern day Native Americans are over 50% white blood in them. You failed to keep your culture and people from being appropriated because you wanted to have sex with white people.

Check the $5 native girl's file.
Does she wear hip hop inspired gear?
Does she use the word "cool"?
Does she listen to modern American music? If so, she is appropriating black culture.
She's not on the rez eating fry bread, she's online scouring for a clapback?
Is she from the 5 civilized? If so...she can stfu, they owned slaves and were brutal.
Otherwise... she's right.
Too bad Pocahontas was a 12 year old girl, and that costume reflects a fictionalized version that showed whites favorably.
Will she call out Disney? No.

That depends if it was done as a way to pay tribute or if it was done to be disrespectful. I doubt this lady meant any disrespect to NA culture.

She's using their culture for Instagram thirst traps :martin:

She's way outta line, pal

I understand why a native American would be extra sensitive about something like this.

I was never on the "cultural appropriation" bandwagon because all it does is make people more tribalistic. Look, culture is supposed to evolve. Ideally, people would learn from different cultures and adapt certain aspects that speak to them.

This whole "this is MY culture and it belongs ONLY to me and you can't have ANY of it" attitude only keeps up walls between people and discourages cultural exchange of ideas. And since America is supposed to be a combination of diverse cultures, the idea that they're not gonna influence each other is far-fetched.

That's the ideal. Sadly, we live in a world of unequal distribution of power where certain ppl force others to submit to a global Monocultural structure while reducing the authentic expressions of indigenous cultures to mere entertainment. Something that's marketable and "safe".

This tribalism that you see is a reaction to that.
