I just realized tonight I was listening to the album out of sequence this whole time, smh, after 3 listens. The sequence the way they put it out makes the album sound weaker, imo. The first half of the album is like a 3.5 to me, being generous...the second half is close to perfect. First impressions are vital when it comes to albums, after that mediocre start it probably turned would-be supporters of the album off by the time they even got to the second half of the album.

Imagine if the album was just Track 9 to Track 16 on some "Illmatic" shyt. shyt woulda been a classic album of throwaways, think about that, :ohhh:

I don't even know off hand but the first 3 songs were always

1. QB Politics
2. You Mean The World To Me
3. Queens Wolf

The real sequence just threw my vibe off man, I don't really love No Bad Energy, Vernon Family, Jarreau, Royalty, Who Are You or Adult Film...and those are 6 of the first 8 songs, :palm:

Damn. So u dont like half the album damn near? All those songs are dope to me except Jarreau. And most casuals have some their fav songs as No Bad Energy, Vernon Family, Adult Film. Especially No Bad Energy.

I was listening to Nas music today and remembering when Nas used to drop a street single first and follow that up with the lead single for the album. The streets single would sometimes not make the album but instead be a bonus track. He had the streets ready for Nasty Nas music then, with the lead single, he got the mainstream ready. Then the album would drop. I know this Lost Tapes was a whole different type of project and rollout that wouldn’t necessarily need this type of rollout but it makes me really miss the streets singles.

They're cool, they're not wack but ehh, those are my least favorites. I could rock with it though because they were spread out how I was listening to the album initially. On the official sequence though all my least favorite songs are almost back to back, lol, damn. Album sequencing is madd underrated I think, that shyt could make or break an album imo

I guess, with the next Lost Tapes, Nas is going to again go after the remaining Def Jam recordings. If he is partnered with Sony now, my theory is that he can always get to him Sony catalog.
