Nas really got 5 classics. Name which other rapper that got 5 classic rap albums. Honestly.

I respect yout hip hop opinion, but I have to disagree with you here. AG is a classic. That's the album everyone refers to when they talk about the last time they felt Jay was on point album wise.

Plus that shyt was trill AF.
:psalute:
I hear you. It's definitely a great album. Listening to it right now.

I feel like it's not held in that classic regard like say RD or BP. :yeshrug:

If you made a thread with a poll, the votes would probably be split 50/50. A classic gotta be 80%. :yeshrug:

Fukk it I’m going to say this cuz I never heard no one say this. People always talk about RD not being a classic when it was released. But being a 13 year old kid I clearly remember IWW getting shyt on big time. Tbh I don’t even remember when IWW was deemed a classic. Even on takeover people didn’t think Jay was out of line with the “ugh” line in regards to that album. It’s like Jay bought that album attention and made people re-listened to IWW. When people gave it another shot then did majority was wrong

You're right. When it came out people shytted on it because of the trackmasters production (and to a lesser degree the escobar persona). The beats weren't bad. They were great. It's just that a lot of purists wanted an Illmatic 2 with Pete Rock, Primo, Large Pro, LES, etc instead of the flasier Trackmaster type beats.

Context is the key. At that time, Puff was being blamed by underground headz for bringing in "shiny suits" rap. Cats thought Nas went to the darkside with IWW.

But in retrospect that was the smart move. Those beats sound fresh AF to this day. Can't say the same for Illmatic. And that's a top 5 album of all time for me.

My thoughts exactly Face. Folks still forgetting your gems but carry on:francis:
Diary is cemented.
Fix I'll allow.
That's it though.
Stellar catalog though.

NY purists didn't like it, but the majority of heads from other regions fu**ed with it. IWW dropped right before I started college, and I was hearing everybody bump that album except a few New Yorkers.
