Nas really got 5 classics. Name which other rapper that got 5 classic rap albums. Honestly.

Fukk it I’m going to say this cuz I never heard no one say this. People always talk about RD not being a classic when it was released. But being a 13 year old kid I clearly remember IWW getting shyt on big time. Tbh I don’t even remember when IWW was deemed a classic. Even on takeover people didn’t think Jay was out of line with the “ugh” line in regards to that album. It’s like Jay bought that album attention and made people re-listened to IWW. When people gave it another shot majority of fans realized they were wrong
Its true, when It was written dropped Nas fans hated on it hard, myself, I always preferred it to illmatic.

I think that might only be your perspective.

Kanye got some heat for not being (and I hate using this term) "gangsta," but he wasn't considered effeminate for long because the times were changing and he had talent. Plus, I'm not even sure what you mean by "effeminate" in this context. Are you saying he was never considered masculine, or that he didn't push certain aspects of the male ego?

this entire thread is BIZARRE.

it has nothing to do with him not being "gangsta"

Kanye himself said that he was always accused of acting gay growing up.

theres nothing masculine about the guy at all. I cant believe this is even up for debate.

no it didn't. people liked it but it was like in the rotation no more no less.

and what streets were you in, up top?

I'll wait.

yep. Even Future said no one cared about the album. it had no impact and one gave a single fukk about it until blueprint 1 dropped.

I clearly said UP TOP.

future is a mumble-rapper from Atlanta.

none in particular. But as a hip hop fan I listen to the people who were there and who clearly said rd had nothing special at that time. Jay z himself said numerous time that rd didnt get that much love. iww dropped one week after it blew ereything off even thought hardcore fans didnt like it. it was pac, nas, fugees, and mobb deep and outkast, bone thugs, de la, lil kim, junior mafia, the roots... aint no nikka was a succes but mainly due to foxy. she way way more popular than jay

- Illmatic obviously.
- It was written even though it was hated on at the time, didn't it still go number 1 (something that actually mattered then) and have tons of impact on the genre in general? I think that would qualify for classic even though there was some sophomore jinx shyt going on here.
- Stillmatic, people still get passionate AF discussing this time period, enough said I believe.
Also why does no one consider Untitled to be classic worthy? The conversation and controversy this album caused, even got Congress to say something. Always thought it was underrated and didn't get the respect it deserved.

Honorable mentions:

I Am... (Bootleg) I consider classic but that's just me. Never seen an album that never released in it's true retail form make waves through a city still and go this day is recognized.

Lost Tapes, always thought this was great, but a complication non the less. Closest compilation to a classic I've seen tho, personally I'd give him this one or the bootleg, but I'd understand why other wouldn't.

Life is Good has summer on smash on it so... Here that album stays.

I appreciate your honesty.

I was there tho.

in what context did jay-z say that? I'm sure hes speaking on what RD did commercially.

and youre confusing streets with mainstream. half of these acts were not big in the streets like that during this period.

youre not speaking much on the actual music.

I knew hip-hop was over, when jay was still allowed to exist after that "kingdom come" garbage.

fast forward thru 11 years of washed-up jay-z wackiness, and he drops 4:44. which is almost as bad as "kingdom come" and you got people in here calling it a classic.
