Nas really got 5 classics. Name which other rapper that got 5 classic rap albums. Honestly.

This BS about 1 or 2 tracks from a classic make me laugh. To me, a classic is about how an album resonates and stands the test of time. Not that you can't find fault with it. People call GKMC classic because there's nothing wack necessarily on it but if we're honest there are albums that resonated, influenced and impacted a lot more even though they may have a questionable track or so.

Get Rich Or Die Tryin is undeniably classic even if you can say you didn't like a track or 2. The fact that 10-15 years you can play the album anywhere in the world and ppl will know most the songs etc show its classic
Good post.
GRODT is a 3.5 mic album to me, but it's undeniably a classic.

Although GKMC had a big impact and immediately resonated as a classic.

Nas is probably my favorite rapper of all time. Worst case scenario he's top 2.

But he doesn't have 5 classic albums.

Honestly I can't think of a single artist, duo, or group that has 5 classics.

:jbhmm: I can think of a bunch with 3, and a few with 4.

:manny: If we accept that the standard for what makes a classic has loosened over the years, then okay, sure. I mean when God's Son dropped, it far from met the criteria of a classic album, but if we want to look back after 15 years and say it's a classic because it's dope and hasn't aged that badly, then I guess I don't have a huge problem with that.

But God's Son is not a true school (The Source before it fell off) 5-mic classic IMO. :hubie:

I dapped because you're fam, but I think we need a new word besides "classic" for these albums like GRODT that are really dope and 3.5 mic albums or maybe even 4 mic albums that are just really well remembered and were received well at the time.

IMO GRODT is not a classic at all but I still love it and I know EXACTLY what you and @WickedGames are talking about.

I mean on one hand, we can run so many songs on that album that are basically perfect...basically there's not a skipper on the first 8 tracks. So many classic songs there...

But ya'll really wanna call an album classic that has Blood Hound, Like My Style, and Poor Lil Rich on it?

IMO there's like a dozen songs on the album that are basically flawless, but it's a 19 song album.

It's so weird, breh. Out of all the tracks on GRODT, that was THE track I used to play THE shyt out of. Probably my most played track of 2003. That whole bridge ending with "I'm a bachelor baby, fukk what you heard!!" was my fukkin motto.

That's why I chuckle every time I see breh's username: @Chill Yayo I Got Dis

Posters probably hating on it because it's a hard, sorta-strange beat and they're rhythmless. It never got a video so there's no one to tell them that the track is classic.

Agree about GS. Stillmatic meets that criteria though. Depending on what exactly you mean by "nearly" :prodigylol:

It's a really dope album with some truly great to classic Nas tracks

Intro
Ether
Got urself A Gun
You're Da Man
Rewind
One Mic
2nd Childhood
Destroy And Rebuild
The Flyest
What Goes Around

I just feel overall production wise it's inconsistent and has a couple duds. And the Blueprint comparisons make it look worse.

Stillmatic is not a classic. There's classic songs obviously but there's some average to a couple trash songs too. 3-3.5 /5 at best. This album was better wen it came out 30-35% of it isn't replayable no more. Destroy and rebuild ain't shyt to thun and kicko as well so even if it was ight it's automatically scrapped to me. I don't even listen to what goes around that to me is gunits song they made that joint hot. Blueprint came out same time and was better. Nas ethered jay tho.
Gods son is not a classic at all :comeon:
& while lost tapes is good that shyt ain't no classic either

Mobb deep has two classics in the top 5-10. Infamous is number 1 to me and hell on earth is number 5.
And murda muzik if u count the bootleg is better then iww.
Only thing I disagree with you on is Lost Tapes. I think it's a classic piece of work.

I agree re: Stillmatic.

Most of the best albums have 1 skipper that basically everyone agrees on. For example, most people skip One Time 4 Your Mind on Illmatic. They just do. It's still a classic album.

On Stillmatic, it's basically perfect from the Intro until The lLyest is over. Smokin' was considered not super dope when the album dropped, I remember that. But it's grown on me.

The album then falls short right near the end. Braveheart Party is just bad. My Country and Rule are cool, but not great. It ends on a very high note with What Goes Around.

Then for the bonus cuts you've got 2 bangers with Every Ghetto and then the OG version of No Idea's Original before Alchemist decided to scrap the origibeat and use the Barry White sample.

@Piff Perkins Damn. my post was more long winded but me and you essentially left off the same 4 tracks.

Lost Tapes isn't a real album.
That's the main knock I see against The Lost Tapes. I have a couple of replies on that though.

It's in a weird spot, because it feels like more than a mixtape. It was released officially, and if Nas put the track list together, then I'd still consider it an album. But technically you're right, it's not an album. It's leftovers from a couple of albums. But it does SEEM to me like it was laid out in a good order, and not just thrown together. The artwork was dope, and the fact that it was a genuine 'black album' was dope to me also. I dunno. yeah I wouldn't argue with you. It may not be an album, but I don't consider it a mixtape. So it;s a classic "project" to me, either way.

I don't even remember the track listing like that to be honest. I just remember his rapping was nowhere as good as it was on the songs leading up to the album and the production wasn't anything special.

Can't even imagine how terrible a song like PIMP probably sounds now :picard:
