Seems like Mike Dean mixed the HitBoy track on Travis' album. And Mike Dean did a HORRENDOUS job mixing the NASIR album.

Kanye fukked that whole project up. Had Nas laying vocals over unfinished beats and they ran out of time. Album wasn't even done the day it dropped. But it was a means to an end to finish the Def Jam deal

Not sure why we comparing this to Travis Scott anyway. Travis album a multi million dollar, heavily produced project he been working on for years, of course it's going to have a cleaner sound

Magic and Magic 2 was recorded quick mostly in Hit-Boy's home studio and they said they was shooting for a rougher mix on these two specifically, compared to the KD series

Could be..maybe..they just don't care to go the extra mile for Nas cause he probably doesn't pay attention to details? That's my guess

The score is a 6/10 but he seemed positive about saying it’s okay but not as strong as the trilogy and looks at this as a holdover to the next project which he thinks is better

I’m not too objectionable to the Cacfork and Fantano reviews as they seem positive

It’s interesting the perception of this album, at worst people have said it’s low stakes, still decent and just a warm up for whatever they got next

But that very same reason is why people think it needs to end when no one was this vocal after KD 3

Seems your in UK or Europe too right? honestly i'm not sure i'll do a 5am first listen again haha.

But yeh certain albums it's instant you know it's great. Like Magic. While other albums take some time. Not Nas, but first time I heard Bandana by Gibbs didn't really fukk with it. But after few more listens loved it and eventually one of my favourite albums from that time period
Yeah France. Bandana I was impressed but didn't think it would get a cult following like that. Then I saw this live show Madlib & Freddie Gibbs (Live) | Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Bandana LP and felt some DMX/2Pac vibes in terms of charisma. He didn't live up to that for some time I really thought he was the next big thing in Hip-hop

Still haven't seen it, how good is it?

I thought it was excellent personally.

They really went into how Supreme fukked himself over being arrogant. Irv Gott offered a legit way out and Supreme was like “If I can’t be the man i’ll pass”.

They also didn’t skimp on the 50 Cent situation

Smokin, My Country, and Braveheart Party are not good songs

Got Yourself A Gun, Rule, and The Flyest are just ok

Everything else is great to super classics

I think the advantage that these Hit-Boy albums have is their consistency

Maybe they don’t have the highest of the highs as Stillmatic (and honestly I think that’s arguable) but they absolutely don’t have the lows

I can play each of these Hit-Boy albums straight through and I can’t say the same for Stillmatic even though that album will always hold a special place
My nikka hold up… Got Urself is a classic Nas single :whoa:

The Flyest is some fly shyt

I’m with you on some of them other songs

fukk this dude and his clique butttt..... I kinda agree with most of the content of his review. Rating would be 7-7.5/10 if it was another artist, and probably 8.5 if it was Jay, but I have the same criticism (even tougher than that actually) than him on the album's flaws

i think the feedback on this album both critics and fans is in line with what a lot on here are saying, KD3 KD2 and Magic were almost unanimously praised, this isn’t as good as those and I think the worries a lot of us had before of overdoing the amount of albums with one producer aren’t unfounded, need some new inspiration and maybe to mix it up a bit for the next release.

fwiw other than JPEG Mafia/Danny Brown joint and the Billy Woods joint he’s been pretty down on rap releases this year. Gave Killer Mike a 5 and didn’t like the Larry June at all

But he’s been pretty positive and given good scores to the other Nas/Hit Boy records (high 7’s, strong 8s and highly rated KD 2 and 3)
He has said he looks at the Magic albums as just appetizers even though he rated the first higher
