To me it’s like sports. An athlete always gonna be usually at their peak 20 to 30 or so. There’s always downhill slope but most get completely washed by time they’re close to retirement like most rappers.

Nas like Messi, Brady, Nadal. May not be at absolute peak but they still doing incredible seasons/ albums. And in hip hop that’s unprecedented given how long Nas been around.

Messi never will have a season like 2012 again. Nas never gonna be 1996 Nas again. But both can still compete and be at the top past their prime cos they’re that good

I gotta disagree. It's not physical so as long as he doesn't lose his voice he should be fine. In fact, I would say he's better now then in 96. He's had an extra 27 years to practice his craft. 20 year old Nas would struggle with a 40 side or a slow it down

I dunno how y'all deal with this. Nas done put out the same album 5 times in 2 years and y'all love it. Maybe it's me because it all comes across as "Remember when?" rap and it was cool for a while but, 5 albums of it in a short period of time is ALOT. Like rapping about sitting with Kool G Rap and drinking Old E's in 2023 is WILD.

I just don't think he cares about sales at all right now, because they are doing the same things (i.e. very little) they have done with the last couple of albums. Even without guest features, there are ways he could promote it and he doesn't seem interested at all. He's creating albums because he wants to and the rest is gravy.

As far as streaming, out of curiosity I did some math and if it takes 1500 streams on a paid service to count as a purchase, with 11 songs you would have to stream Magic 2 nearly 137 times to count as one sale. That is around 70 hours of listening to Magic 2 (which clocks in a little over a half hour) to count as one sale.

(Edit: For streaming purposes the intro is over 30 seconds so it counts as a "song" for the purposes of this exercise.)

i'm a gold medal, certified Nas stan. I've played album less than 100 (maybe less than 50) times due to work and kids ( did buy the album though). but yeh it's not realistic for old heads to do loads of streaming.
Y’all are on a rap board trying to make streaming sound like quantum physics

No one person is streaming an album enough to register one sale :dead:

There’s simply not enough people listening to Nas music.

Yep. Everyone is saying the same thing, over and over and over again. Yet somehow theres still dudes in denial

You can’t have classic albums with no SOUL. No personal shyt. That’s what’s missing. Hit does not bring it out of him. Hit mirrors the dudes of his era (some in these threads) that DON’T want that, call it ‘sleep inducing’. Ie, how many times in these 5 albums hs Nas mentioend his son?? :jbhmm: I mean I’d expect a whole song but I can’t even recall a mention. The production doesn’t evoke it.

So that’s what a ‘missing’ is you can almsot feel Hit/Nas are scared to have a slow/somber music. Case in point look how Hit ends the albums. Usually the last song is the super personal track the slow/somber track. This ngga ends it with Nas and 21 Savage. :heh: KD 1 it’s Spicy. He/they scared new age fans will call it boring. Nas didn’t become possible goat bc of his shyt talking. 5 albums of Nas talkin fly is not stickin to the ribs

so I guess Doggystyle isn’t a classic because it lacks “soul” lol

You just saying any ole thing. You know damn well none of these albums sound the same. Your favorite artist probably isn’t even dropping music anymore and if they are it’s probably :flabbynsick:
