"I'm a carnivore, constantly come with concepts to pay me
I'm responsible for they most cockiest behavior
My DNA in they G'd up ways, and they surveying us
Showed em my scrotum is goldеn, rap game stomach was swollen
I left thеse b*stards on your doorsteps, behold em"

I think it was Pete Rock wanted performance/writer’s royalties since he performs the hook on the song. That portion is supposed to come out of Nas chunk of royalties. Pete Rock’s lawyer ran an audit and I guess according to them they contacted Sony Records about the royalties and Sony told them to contact Nas.

I have no idea why Nas would be responsible for getting Pete Rock performance royalties. Nas owns HIS OWN publishing for Illmatic and for 30 years MC Serch owned a small piece of it and helped administer publishing deals (which he himself claims is mostly Anthony Selah doing the leg work and him signing off on it) Serch sold his shares last year because according to him, the full rights will revert back to Nas in five years anyway so Nas told him “Get your money” while he still could.

His camp claims he received publishing royalties - which you'd typically receive for lyrics or a composition (beat) - but hasn't received any points or royalties from the master recording so he's not really getting paid. Ask yourself why one of the biggest producers in rap wouldn't get points on a new artist's debut record. Is it because Serch was a genius and got Nas a crazy amount of points (true) while stifling producers? Hell no. No other Illmatic producer is complaining. They were all big names and got their points except for Pete, apparently. The reason is obvious: because he demanded budget money up front for beats and wasn't getting his paperwork right. He's always been about that first check and didn't care about the backend. Funk Flex exposed him on this already.

Think about all the people who write hooks and have a bigger artist do them. Does Rhianna go to Eminem directly to get money for the hooks she did (that Skylar Gray wrote)? Of course not, Interscope paid her for the performance. Pete is wylin' and getting his pockets run by lawyers telling him what he wants to hear. He knows why he's not getting royalties lol.

Yea I was plugged in

Question

If I already purchased the album via iTunes then does listening to this playlist still count for streams since the album is already part of my library?
I'm not an iTunes/Apple music user but I believe they used to have a 'match' system which would match your iTunes library with Apple Music database. Not sure if that's still a thing.

I think you can add your purchased music to Apple Music library and then play it from there or check if the icloud status of your purchased music is 'matched' in order for it to be counted as a stream.

Thats what was crazy about the whole thing in the first place. Nas doesn’t OWN the Illmatic Masters, he owns the PUBLISHING. It wouldn’t be Nas responsibility to pay out Pete Rock royalties from the Masters side of things. His lawyer really said they hit up Sony and Sony basically told them “Go Talk To Nas”. Does that make ANY SENSE?!!?!

Guarantee Sony ain't tell him that. They told him check the contracts, we owe you nothing. So he blamed someone else, Nas. That's his style

The hit boy hate is strictly due to him working with Nas. Hit Boy so versatile man. Nas brings out the suckers and haters when he drops like no other.
Imagine if he was working for the other "guy" the praise he would be getting:mjlol:. To be fair he's getting tons of credit. Let's not overreact to a some twitter idiots

Hell no, that's why I don't believe them lol. Not to mention Pete is on record admitting Nas wrote the hook so what money is he looking for, beyond the money he left on the table by getting paid up front?

I listened to some of the Large Pro Drink Champs ep and he alluded to Pete Rock having some issues due to the Illmatic thing, and straight up said "things can kind of be kooky at times but that's my brother" lmao. Producers eat off plat albums due to royalties...imagine how much better they eat off a double plat album. And Pete's not getting much of any of that. He's getting publishing royalties but the master points/royalties are the big slice. That's on him and he has to know it.
