I thought I read that the lawsuit was never actually filed, just that Pete Rock was threatening to do so

I heard about the lawsuit in small pockets but never fully in depth..
what was foundation of the lawsuit?

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
A lot of people hold I Am... in high regard, but I never have. It has really high highs ("Nas is Like," "Small World," "N.Y. State of Mind II"), but it also has songs that are just.....there. The double album being bootlegged is one of the lowest moments in hip hop history.

And now that Nipsey's dead, we're never going to find out the truth. :mjcry:
I love I Am but I’m not gonna pretend it’s fukkin wit IWW. Ironically I knew a few cats who had I Am as their fav Nas album back then as well.

I think it was Pete Rock wanted performance/writer’s royalties since he performs the hook on the song. That portion is supposed to come out of Nas chunk of royalties. Pete Rock’s lawyer ran an audit and I guess according to them they contacted Sony Records about the royalties and Sony told them to contact Nas.

I have no idea why Nas would be responsible for getting Pete Rock performance royalties. Nas owns HIS OWN publishing for Illmatic and for 30 years MC Serch owned a small piece of it and helped administer publishing deals (which he himself claims is mostly Anthony Selah doing the leg work and him signing off on it) Serch sold his shares last year because according to him, the full rights will revert back to Nas in five years anyway so Nas told him “Get your money” while he still could.

Yea I was plugged in

Question

If I already purchased the album via iTunes then does listening to this playlist still count for streams since the album is already part of my library?

No idea, these streaming rules so goofy. I bought the album on Amazon and listening on Tidal so pretty sure I'm good :myman:
