Nas is on point and sharp as ever. Some of the production on this a bit meh, sequencing doesn't seem to flow like the others either.

My perspective on the album changed considerably over the course of the day (in UK so was up at 5 to listen). Apart from being tired and perhaps expecting a different sort of album, the sequencing just felt off to me.

But yeh after a day of listening, this album goes hard.

Favourite track right now is Motion. Seen some not feeling the chorus but I think the simplicity of it works.

Only song I’m currently not fukking majorly with is Earvin Magic Johnson just because beat seems lazy AF

This shyt is not bad but we aint come here expecting experimental flows on trap beats Nas, thats what KD series is for. Magic series supposed to be a return to rare form, which it was in some places. Slow It Down for example. But even the experimental shyt his flows on point as fukk, he's finding the pockets in these beats in ways hes never rapped before and I love that cause I remember the main criticism against him when I was a kid (I got into Nas around Stillmatic/Gods Son era and then went back) was that he aint have no flow compared to Jay, that he literally had the worst flow on the whole fukking song in Oochie Wally. Idk I cant say this is bad its just unexpected as fukk. Bizarre beats reminiscent of Salaam Remi days lol I respect it for that tho, Ill take the best tracks off here and just add it to my Nas playlist rather than pretend its groundbreaking but he is undoubtedly the nicest 50 year old rapper in the world idgaf who thinks different
Please post the tweet or interview where Nas said Magic series is supposed to be return to form. Does Jay’s vol 1 and 2 sound the same?

Really it’s just Abracadabra that set me off to being mad at the production on this. Especially as the first track. And that Magic Johnson track is meh.

Overall this is a nice companion piece to some of the other music he’s made. I see the value in HitBoy to a degree and I also think they must branch out.

The main thing thin with all of this is that if you are a Nas fan your guy is still kicking at a high level. His catalogue is endless. And I wish I could get anywhere near this effort out of some of my other favs.

Lastly, I don’t need an album with Alc. Alchemist has a lane already. I’d rather hear some more newer beat makers and eventually a well thought out project with Premo, Pete, Tip, Large Pro in the mix to bring things home.

I'd be on board with this a couple years ago but I think West has fallen off a little bit in terms of his curation skills. Pray For Haiti, Kiss The Ring, 10, and Nacksaw Jim Duggan all sound pretty much the same to me on production. West is spamming Conductor, Monk, and Denny LaFlare at this point, and beat after beat have the wobble sound effect and stretched out sample pack sounds. I really fukk with all 3 of those producers too, don't get me wrong. I just think he did a better job putting together production on stuff like Supreme Blientelle, and Hermes 6 and 7. He was in the zone at that time.

:manny: After hearing this then going back to the KD series I need something sonically better. The beauty of those albums is the combination of how lyrical it is along with really good production. Griselda is still sonically the best doing it now, I wouldn’t mind if Nas uses something like that. Didn’t Dave East get Westside to produce his album?
