My thoughts. I'm about 3/4 through the album and its the best album I have heard in a loooooooong time.
Certain songs gave me goosebumps. Hair standing up on my arm as I drove bumping a song I'm still not sure what the name is because all I was paying attention to was driving past the George Washington Plantation with some purp in the air as the souls of forgotten slaves slowly nodded there heads in delight as I drove by :lawd:

When I heard Cherry Wine, I almost had a tear come out
I didn't give a fukk about Amy Winehouse while she was alive, but to effectively use somebody who has already passed away?
I can respect that just because I'm a human being. Its touching, and the fact it came off decent is what makes it :ohlawd: Hip-Hop in its rawest form
Its funny yet a damn shame that its not familiar to those who was unguided

Bruh, your name is Penfield. What the fukk would you know about corny when you have come up in the age of Corny?
You live in an age when somebody like Tyler the Creator can be a big deal.
Its like, in this day n age nobody has to pay any dues.
Nas was right about Hip-hop being dead tho. The future has nikkaz like you and that other clown in it :sadcam:

Gramps is upset :old:

If this is what the slaves died for it was truly a waste.

And you have the gall to talk about real hip-hop yet respect Amy Winehouse in the same sentence, you should have your rap license revoked, along with your actual license for smoking while driving.

Album is shyt, deal with it. Nas was cool for like a 3 year period in the 90s, now he exists for people who like to talk about real hip-hop as if that shyt matters anymore.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
I'm waiting til the actual release date to buy and listen.

I haven't heard ANYTHING yet outside of the singles.

So far, reviews I've seen fall into 2 camps:

1. This is CLASSIC. On par with It Was Written.

2. This is mediocre a la SD, HHID, etc.

Thoughts?

WAY more people fall into the first category...real talk...and I aint even talkin just on this site..im talkin in real life as well...

It's very good. I'm more pleased with this album than I was with IWW. Take that how you will.

I take it as you have terrible taste in music.

The Production is on point, Nas just doesn't flow well over most of these beats.

Production wise it's his best album since God's Son.

Lyrically abnd conent wise. Probably his best ever.

Flow ise easily his worst ever.

And for me who respects flow the most, it makes the album pretty unlistenable.

i'm not feeling it because the beats are corny and too commercial. if it had more songs like locomotive and nasty, i'd be :dj2:

instead, it has shyt like daughters and other crap i don't care about. because of that, the album gets a
See this is the delima Nas has faced forever. Some want him on that Esco ish, Some want him on that Illmatic ish and some just want him to sell out and sound like eveyone else. Anything between that you get meh from all groups.. Not knocking what you're saying because I lean towards what you said but lets try to understand the industy and Def Jam... Nas would be happy on that Lost Tapes ish but he has to try and move some units..

I REAL LIFE. People are going out of control about this album. If you think it's mediocre, stay at your computer. People are going off about the album.

nas is at his best when hes himself.

i dont know him.

but i think him bein himself is a low-key successful focused sharp and wise and respected without having to invite it.

when he gets away from that and tries to sound epic or the least bit accessible/commercial he stumbles.

his dad was a musician. a real musician. even tho hes blow his dad outta the water in every facet i still think he wants to respected as a classy musician first and foremost. and second, go down as a top black man in america. neither of which will happen. when its all said and done, hes a rapper from queensbridge. and thats when hes best.

if people dont see the parallel between this and dreamer/believer youre not lookin close enough.

both albums will live out the same reputations. this one will get a little more credit because its nas. and nas gets more credit than common.

the bolded is ALL that needs to be said...this is the problem..and dude u qouted was right..no matter WHAT that nikka does musically..and I mean literally no matter what he does...SOMEONE is gonna complain..this nikka literally has somethin for everybody on this album..and it's always SOMEBODY who think's they know who the nikka is as a person...this is what cursed him since Illmatic...nikkas thought they knew him..I mean it's nikkas out there who don't even like Illmatic...and prefer IWW...than there's the people who like the conscious Nas the most...etc etc...how is an album that contains info about HIS relationship with his wife...his daughter...the things he does and has achieved in HIS life...not him being himself?..shyt is gettin to a point where it's ridiculous...

im not shocked. every album hes come out with since 04 is well liked outside of the internet. you never see someone in person say nas last album wasnt too good.

the reaction im seein on this board when i say its average is the same looks the people in my circle give me when i say nas isnt all that.

there is no right. i just have the unpopular opinion.

I love the balance the album has. Street shyt, and commercial tracks while staying true to his self. Theres a couple tracks he should have left off the album though.

Throwaway tracks:
1. A Queens Story - Terrible production. Salaam Reemi misses completely, and is much better at R&B rap production. Its a shame because NaS is really spitting, but the beat is too unfocused.

2. Worlds an Addicition.
