Something else that doesn't get highlighted in regard to both Jay and Nas beat selection is this: No I.D. He laced both Nas and Jay, but people still dissed Nas beat selection, but praised 4:44. Some of No I.D's best work is "Stay", "Back When" and "Where's The Love". Life Is Good is another Nas album that is evidence of Nas actually having some great production on his albums.

One thing is Nas style of beats age really gracefully compared to Jay just because the beats aren't trend hoppin. That's why when you go to a Jay concert it always puzzled me how different his Blueprint tracks are from his Vol 3 tracks and those completely different from the rd ones.
Nas production is more simple nostalgic like. And I always said nas problem is lefting gems out of his albums not the beat selection. Like what makes method man Redman snoop Talib kweli royce da 5 9 beat selection better than nas' ?

I swear I was just thinking the same thing. Most of Nas' music, production included, stands the test of time. A lot of those Neptune's, Timbo, Swizz beats bring back memories but I can't really listen to em like that. Even the Kanye chipmunk soul, while not as bad as the previously mentioned, sit in a specific time period.
It's not that their being stepped on, they just aren't giving them the desired reaction. When you reach the level that they have reached it becomes more about "Why argue with people who have no power"? Yes, it's the media, but at this point, they don't make or break artists of Nas and Jay caliber. Therefore, why would they even give them a response just so the media can then play the victim.

That goes for most production. There's songs that Premo produced for both that don't hit as hard as "D'evils" or "NY State of Mind" or "Nas Is Like". I still think Nas and Premo never missed, but "Come and Get Me" definitely isn't on the level of everything else they did. There's some Ski beats from Vol. 1 that don't hit like "Dead Presidents" or "Feelin It". Jay has classics with Timbo, The Neptunes, and Kanye. They all have some wack songs too, but that's a given considering the volume of work.
