Traditionally receiving an album of the year nomination almost assures that you’ll win your genre awards. In this case it looks like Donda is the favorite for rap AOTY. Surprised Tyler didn't get an AOTY nom btw.

Strong field. Kanye gonna take it I think. I wouldnt' be too mad about it. I'm just surprised they didn't put Lil Nas X in there. He's probably under the pop category.
You’re absolutely right. I think maybe only three times in Grammy history did the Best Rap Album trophy go to the album that wasn’t also nominated for AOTY.
Also Kanye won last year for Jesus Is King in Best Contemporary Christian Album so the Grammy’s still have love for him.
Whats working in Nas’s favor is that He’s the winner from this year and the Grammy’s historically LOVE rewarding repeat nominees in the Rap Album category. Also there is no commitee this year so Nas could theoretically have an edge having the more critically acclaimed and celebrated album from a straight vote.
The world wasn’t as in love with Donda, the spectacle caused more hype than the actual music and him hanging out with the likes of Da Baby and Marilyn Mason during the height of their “scandals” rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.
Nas and Tyler both have pretty good chances as Tyler’s album was as critically acclaimed as Nas’s was. So we’ll see
I wouldn’t be surprised if Khaled, Nas, and Hov all agreed behind the scenes to just let X’s estate submit Bath Salts as one final tribute to X’s legacy. Seems like something they’d do
