Thats why I said Life Is Good’s legacy needs to be protected at ALL costs. That album is a modern classic and had hella impact when it came out. It set the standard for middle age rappers to make “grown man” albums. Which is something he attempted to do with Streets Disciple but absolutely NAILED with LIG.


The song writing, flow, and execution are 100% top notch.


It should be a HUGE thing to say any post 2012 Nas album is ahead of LIG. I think Kings Disease Part 2 is better BUT I feel like it should be much much more of a debate and conversation.


Whenever someone says “This is Nas’s best album since Stillmatic” I know they haven’t actually LISTENED to a Nas album after Stillmatic because the disrespect Gods Son, Untitled, and Life Is Good gets is fukking crazy

I though he could have nailed it with Streets Disciple, had it not been a double disk. Whittle it down to the best 14-16 tracks and it could have been up there with anything else in his discography.

The only reason I put kd2 over lig is because I absolutely hate the song the black bond and I wasn’t a fan of bye bye baby at all. Felt he could have executed bye bye baby better.

did he murder that song? Absolutely yes! But I hate the beat. Sounds like some shyt for a soundtrack to a old Batman movie… with production and something more to add to those verses, he could have made something epic.

SD was supposed to be a TRIPLE ALBUM and the concept was Nas going through various points of his career and personas leading up to the wedding. Salaam also said that the seasons of Summer, Fall, and Winter was supposed to play part of the concept.


Sony wouldn’t let Nas make it a triple album and thats why songs like Good Morning, Serious (with AZ), Talk Of New York, and Foul Breeze never made the album. Also songs we’ve never heard like I Am Somebody (with Diddy) and Get Up (sequel to Get Down) never made the album.

Yea I saw a vid of Salaam talking about it. He didn't know the final album would be like that, not feature some of the best tracks etc. It's a frustrating album. Feels like some of Prince's albums where you know certain tracks were left off for various non-art related reasons (label, business, religion etc) and it becomes a "what could have been" album. Still I think it's amazing lyrically. Stuff like the second verse on American Way is insane. I wish they would have just added Talk Of NY, Serious, Good Morning, got rid of the relationship tracks, and rethink the Scarlett thing (I like it on Sekou Story but it kinda ruins Live Now). Remove the Rakim track too.

Since Pac keeps coming up anyone else feel like Makings Of A Perfect bytch is a Pac homage? The beat, the flow...I can hear Pac all over it. I don't like the track but always felt man, this is some Pac shyt lol.

I love Sekou Story and Live Now as is. The story blew my mind as a 17 year old and it still holds up today.


I LOVE the relationship tracks too because again, as a kid, this was something you didn’t hear too many rappers tackle. Especially “back then” everything was bytch this hoe that and Nas was talking about loving a woman enough to give up ALL his hoes and actually marry her and honor her.


The second disc from Remember The Times to War is an entire narrative of growth, love, marriage, and maturity. I’ve always loved that about Nas that he sequenced those 2004-2008 era albums to act as chapters in an audio novel.

Makings of a Perfect bytch is def Pac influenced. Side bar. Best person I ever seen do an evolution of Pac flow is my nikka Slaughter Rico from Philly.
