I say this a lot, but as well as Nas team has
handled his business thru the years they have to start fighting back when it comes to this media stuff. The disrespect is so blatant towards him it feels like there's an agenda against him and his team needs to start controlling the narrative instead of sitting back and letting trash like this fly by.
losing fight. they should just continue to do what theyre doing. i learned years ago, because of how great he started his career, in order to propel "certain " other artists, most of these publications and media companies tend to diminish nas' accomplishments and music. last noticeable time was when a certain other artist had a drawn out verse on meek's-what's beef and it was hailed as "omg, you hear this nigg@- verse of the year!"

...

then nas dropped echo and mofos had their lips poked out and arms folded like they didnt see this dude just draw a Picasso in the same silk shirt he had on at the barbara streisand concert.

"The Opposite of Doja Cat"

"What the fukk is up with Gale King?"

And then several songs talking about his failed relationships in which most of the blame seems to be placed on the women, i.e "I met some queens that wasn't ready", or how on Full Circle Mega and AZ show humility by admitting to being immature/possessive in their failed relationships, while Nas' verse is more reflected on the wrongness (malevolent snake shyt) of his partners that left him. Also on 10 Points, the one time Nas says queen in the hook is when it's "gotta learn to let it go and move forward" before he switches back to talking to the kings. Kind of seems intentional since the line always starts with "king" except in that one instance at the end.

Agree or disagree with it the reasoning, but this is what people mean when they say Nas had "smoke" for women (that he called out by name or alluded to) while the album was largely about uplifting black men.

Edit: From listening to the album, I do think Nas is in pain over what happened with Kelis, the accusations, and the shyt going on with him seeing his son. For as much as he went through (esp if his side of the story is 100% truth), then I think he showed a tremendous amount of restraint in expressing that pain respectfully (Only thing worse than being alone is wishing you were). But he doesn't really get the benefit of the doubt to express that pain in the eyes of critics that clearly lean towards believing the other side of the story.

I think the lines you mention are exactly what the Rolling Stone dweeb and others are referring to
(I also think Fivio's verse in Spicy didn't help)

unfortunately I think it's a misunderstanding. Nas' lyrics are often very personal, especially on KD and LIG, and you kind of have to keep up with his previous work and his news headlines to get some of his lines. There's definitely lyrics that only his diehard fans understand

and also it's 2020, where when you say something negative about a single woman or an individual situation, it means you're talking about all women... that's just the PC culture we live in now

I've said this before, but I think (or at least hope) over time Nas' work will prevail

They can start with making some phone calls and start letting folks know to stop playing with the legacy... The end goal is respect which some of these outlets clearly don't have for him.

"Every bytch you with look like a dike" was a bit harsh to me the first time I heard it tho tbh, lol. Only because the climate we are in today, all this gay rights shyt, I'm surprised they didnt boycott that song and the album for that line

“People’s opinions don’t phase me. Dislike don’t dissuade me. Even when they try to paint me, out to be something I’m not. I stay me.”-Nas

The negative Nas narrative has been printed about him since the beginning. Nothing these so called hip hop journalist attempt to do stops Nas’ success. He operates with dignity and this is why those that truly has helped him evolve know exactly when, where and what to say to those that truly matter. None of these people who write this bullshyt about Nas has had any impact on his successful career or personal life. Nas moves in completely different circles from these haters.

What respect does Nas need from a hater that writes for Complex, Rolling Stone or any other music publication outlet? Nas has the respect from the people that matter. Nas endorsement deals, investment deals, music career or person life is not determined by these haters. Nas is very well respected in the entertainment & business industry. Nas has always ignored the negative as much as possible. When he address an issue it’s on his terms.
