Nas could never rap again and his legacy would be solidified, but he’s still outside. It seems he’s not content to simply live off album anniversaries and the 292,398th Jay-Nas debate. He’s always been in tune with the “now” in hip-hop, and he wants in. That’s why he linked with Hit-Boy and started off the producer’s stellar run in 2020 with King’s Disease, an album aimed to appease Nas fans of all ages and address the biggest criticism of his catalog: beat selection. Hit-Boy crafted a soundscape that fuses classic elements with fresh flourishes, strongly accompanying Nas’ still top-tier lyricism on tracks like “Car #85,” Firm reprisal ”Full Circle,” and “Spicy” with Fivio Foreign and ASAP Ferg. The album has a curious amount of smoke for women, especially in lieu of much criticism of men, but it’s overall a solid addendum to the Nas canon. —Andre Gee

Number 44 is absolutely obsurd and why is there always some mentions of beats and saying nas talks bad about women???
I say this a lot, but as well as Nas team has
handled his business thru the years they have to start fighting back when it comes to this media stuff. The disrespect is so blatant towards him it feels like there's an agenda against him and his team needs to start controlling the narrative instead of sitting back and letting trash like this fly by.

It seems like the little criticism that I see thrown at this album always mentions its anti-women sentiment...how tho? How is this album bashing women? It would be corny if this is the reason they dont give son the Grammy. To me this album is his most female-centric album ever

Yeah Im still confused at the anti-women theory critics say this album has. Its not on Till the War is Won, It aint on All Bad, it aint even on Replace Me

Writers are dangerously projecting

"The Opposite of Doja Cat"

"What the fukk is up with Gale King?"

And then several songs talking about his failed relationships in which most of the blame seems to be placed on the women, i.e "I met some queens that wasn't ready", or how on Full Circle Mega and AZ show humility by admitting to being immature/possessive in their failed relationships, while Nas' verse is more reflected on the wrongness (malevolent snake shyt) of his partners that left him. Also on 10 Points, the one time Nas says queen in the hook is when it's "gotta learn to let it go and move forward" before he switches back to talking to the kings. Kind of seems intentional since the line always starts with "king" except in that one instance at the end.

Agree or disagree with it the reasoning, but this is what people mean when they say Nas had "smoke" for women (that he called out by name or alluded to) while the album was largely about uplifting black men.

Edit: From listening to the album, I do think Nas is in pain over what happened with Kelis, the accusations, and the shyt going on with him seeing his son. For as much as he went through (esp if his side of the story is 100% truth), then I think he showed a tremendous amount of restraint in expressing that pain respectfully (Only thing worse than being alone is wishing you were). But he doesn't really get the benefit of the doubt to express that pain in the eyes of critics that clearly lean towards believing the other side of the story.
