Hate Me Now is a great track man. If you ain't feelin it that's fine but I think sometimes hip hop fans don't wanna grow and cause of that they don't want their favorite RAPPERS to grow either. Yea Nas came in on some humble street prophet shyt but if you want him to keep makin the same album again and again and again... then you're settin yourself up for disappointment. People change, and when people change their music is gonna change with them. Nas felt disrespected and felt like he wasn't gettin his due so he felt like beatin his chest a lil and puttin out somethin hardbody. Nuthin wrong with that. But ppl would rather their favorite rapper stay in the same lane for their entire career and never try anything new.

I feel like there's similar levels of cockiness/flaunting in these songs/vids.

Plus that last verse :whew:
It's a thin line between paper and hate
friends and snakes, nine millis and thirty-eights
Hell or the pearly gates; I was destined to come
Predicted, blame God, he blew breath in my lungs
Second to none, wicked turn wives to widows
Shoot through satin pillows, the desolate one
Took a little time to claim my spot
Chairman of the board until this game stop, and I side with the Lord
Ride for the cause while drivin nikkas shot at my doors
Plottin I'm sure to catch me with they glocks to my jaws
Tried, stickin me up, but I flipped on these ducks (you tried)
Instead of me, ambulances were picking them up (that's what you get)
nikkas fear what they don't understand, hate what they can't conquer
Guess it's just the fury of man
Became a monster, on top of the world, never fallin
I'm as real as they come, from day one, forever ballin

Wasn't that a review of the OG version tho? It think it was, I remember the same thing happened when they reviewed a OG version of Murda Muzik and also gave it 4.5 mics, IIRC. The OG version of both of those albums were much better than we actually got as the retail.

No. All the songs they mentioned were on the retail version.

revisionist historian won't listen though!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it got 4.5 mics when it dropped.

But it didn't take long for the disappointment of it not being Illmatic part 2 to take over, and it quickly became underrated

The article is not posted in its entirety and I'm almost positive they reviewed the OG version of I Am, I know for a fact they reviewed the OG Murda Muzik.

It for 4 and a half mics when it dropped

:leon::whoo: Always felt the album was 4.5 mics. Had no idea the Source ranked it so high with their initial review. I think the album gets unwarranted hate because of the beef with Jigga. "thats a 1 hot album every ten year average"

:stopitslime: so IWW and I Am...were weak in comparison to the volumes and dynasty. :yeshrug:

I remember reading the article back in the day and did not recall them mentioning any songs that were not on the retail

And what is the "OG version" of I Am? The bootlegging obviously affected the project by reducing it from a double album to a single album. But I am not aware of a single-disc tracklist that was supposed to be released that was derailed by the bootlegging.

I coulda swore the version the Source reviewed had 'Blaze A 50' 'Poppa Was A Playa' 'Drunk By Myself' 'The Fetus'. but I could be wrong about that.

As for the OG version of I am, there was a single disc version of the album that was leaked onto the internet and was heavily bootlegged (might have been a sampler of disc 1), I used have it on CD back in the day, thats what I was referring to and I believe the Source reveiwed that or the 2 disc version, but like I said, I could be wrong. :manny:
