"I Get Money" and "AYO Technology" saved 50's album cycle for Curtis. Before those songs, it was flop after flop. "I Get Money" did what "Straight to the Bank" was supposed to do and "AYO" did what "Amusement Park" was supposed to do.
Damn, this description is spot on because "Straight to the Bank" and "Amusement Park" were my joints, and I while I didn't expect GRODT or even Massacre level joints, they didn't really even come close. AYO & IGM performed light yrs better than the former

Surprised Go DJ wasn't mentioned.

Wayne dropped Get Something and it flopped so hard the album got pushed back, Bring It Back was dope but I wouldn't call it a hit single..Go DJ gave new life to The Carter and Wayne's career as a whole.
This a good one, I think it’s forgotten because people like the album but you’re right, most weren’t checking for it until Go DJ dropped

Disagree. It wasn’t a bad album cycle though.

That album had songs everyone loved and still loves. BM JR 🔥🔥🔥

Carter is the album that saved cash money records and started his run.

Pink Tape is the real example. I can’t even name one song off that album, and it clearly flopped and came and went. only thing people remember about that album is that I just wanna rock.

Bawitdaba off Kid Rock's "Devil without a Cause" was released as a single damn near a year after the album first dropped and turned that weed plate into a multi platinum smash. I had followed Kid Rock since his days with Jive and Too Short and went to a show he did at the Cotton Club in Atlanta when the album dropped. There were maybe 50 people there... fast forward a year later he was selling out arenas. I remember talking to Rock that night as he walked through the crowd about the poor turnout.

and No.. I don't listen to fukking Kid Rock now.

They just didn’t work the album but the album has songs people are begging to be singles (flooded the wrist, endless fashion with Nicki, died and came back)

The documentary 2 has one single, 100 with Drake. Horribly promoted album saved by a Drake feature. Both 2 and 2.5 are great albums, which showcase how underrated his discography is.

A couple that come to mind for my fellow :flabbynsick: brehs:

Common's first album in '92 was a drowning hole of losses, first single/video "Take It EZ" didn't do too much... then they dropped "Breaker 1/9" with a remix for the video version...still a dud... THEN they remixed "Soul By the Pound" with a video... THIRD single... TOOK OFF.. Ended up at top of Rap City Top 10 countdowns on Saturdays. Relativity probably added the remix version to later pressings of that album. Saved Common's career... Relativity would've probably never done a 2nd album otherwise.

FUGEES.. first album was a major dud... First single "Boof Baf" was horrible. No traction. Single dropped in '93, Album dropped top of '94, with no anticipation or excitement. It had NO other joints on it that would make waves as a single. Salaaam Remi remixed "Nappy Heads"... dropped that as a single... saved their career for sure. Video was on MTV all the time. Then that made way for "Vocab" (yet ALSO had to remix that joint!!) to be a decently received single. Again, I'm sure Columbia had to add the remixed versions of "Nappy Heads" and "Vocab" to later pressings of the album.

The 90's was full of remixed video versions that got you hooked... then you rush to buy the album... and that version ain't on there!!! Was so disappointing.
