You nikkas need to understand that the majority of these East coast albums y'all naming sound dated as hell. They're dope but they'd just sound out of place today. That sound is played the fukk out.

This was one fo the first albums that paved the for how album are made to day, inhow Jay basically had all the hot producers at that time drop a beat for him(Irv, Swizz beat, Timbaland, kid capri, dj premier, rockwilder, j-runnah, erick sermon and JD). But when this started, tracks started not having continuity to it anymore and didnt flow from song to song. I like a story book element to album where each song flow form one to another another like turning the page of a book. Thats why Dre shyt always sound so good. His albums are like mvoeis and the tracks are scene selections. You dont see that shyt nowadays.

I think nigguhs pick tracks on their albums like they pick beats.

Tough call on this, there are a few that still sound fresh today, but the 90's captured a certain sound that still resonates today, even labeling it "dated" or not. Much like a lot of rap today, what with the southern influence, drum cascades and electronic sound, that too will pass.

To some, that organic sound from the 90's doesn't have the same effect on someone that's younger.

Let's be honest, East Coast hip-hop hasn't really changed dramatically since the late 90's. Not at it's core

But I would say, a lot of the more underground stuff hasn't really aged.

but I also have to agree with the Chronic 2001.

I would also add Camp Lo's Uptown Saturday Night, Biggies Ready to Die and 2Pacs last 3 albums still sound pretty fresh.
