I remember learning about this in Community College 15 years ago. how the Texas Rangers started out as a vigilante group, Texas was it's own country after declaring independence from Mexico and going to war. Many of the Soldiers who fought on the Texas side were Tejanos(Mexican Texans) who wanted their own sovereign country, just like Central American countries that broke off from Mexico. Many of the people who fought for Texas, were not even Texan, and were actually white people from the southern united states looking for a land grab. This makes watching movies about the Alamo laughable. After Texas gained it's independence, the white Texans double crossed the Tejanos and stole land, wrongfully imprisoned people, and killed people. Texas was it's own country for 10 years before gaining statehood. Then the Mexican-American war happened and America took the western states. It was all part of Merica's plan of Manifest Destiny to have land from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
