N64 was awesome but I'd like to offer some counterpoints

- Mario 64 was fantastic. One of the greatest. But I think we can point to all sorts of games that similarly changed gaming forever.

- DPad + analog seems like a redundant point. DPad is a foregone conclusion and you already bring up analog stick in your next point.

- Certainly popularized and reinvigorated by Nintendo. No question. But I would argue, analog controls were improved upon by Sony and perfected by Microsoft.

- Variety of colors? :yeshrug:

- 4 controller ports built in - can't argue that.

- Can't argue rumble either.

- Upgradable memory isn't much of a selling point I'd say. And it certainly wasn't the first system to have life-extending add-ons.

- Goldeneye did very little for shooters in the grand scheme of things. Shooters were already mega-popular on PC. Goldeneye then lent some credence and credibility to the idea of having shooters for console but the game that really catapulted that notion was Halo. Without Halo, shooters wouldn't be the supergenre that they are today.

- It did have the best wrestling games but I don't see how that influenced anything or anyone to be honest.

FYI, my all time favorite console is PS2

Also, LOL @ N64 doing anything for online gaming.

Also yes there are other gamechangers but Mario 64 did things sucessfully that other games could not. You had a fully 3D world to explore, with large levels and crisp, clean controls, which was the achilles heel for other games prior. Crash bandicoot was 3d but you only really moved in 2 directions and the other 3d had godawful, unresponsive controls. Mario 64 wasn't perfect but it was unprecedented in that it nailed damn near everything.

Nintendo fathered the analog stick and should get credit for that. Even if Sony, Sega and Microsoft improved the designs, Nintendo fathered that idea and other companies stole it.

If Goldeneye, is not a hit, Halo does not exist, if it werent for Goldeneye, there would be no Halo. I been gaming since the late 70's and I will tell you Goldeneye was a fukking gamechanger as far as CONSOLES were concerned, prior to that you just has shytty ports of PC games with only the singleplayer modes attached to the games and maybe an extra level or two, taken out of the game to preserve space. Furthermore the Nintendo 64 control scheme made shooters a natural choice, The 1st 2 Turok Games (especially 2), their Duke Nukem port, the N64 Version of Quake 2, were all very good if not excellent shooters and showed the genre was viable on a home system.

Did N64 do anything for online gaming as a whole, no. But you would have to be on crack, if you don't think N64 changed made the point that people wanted multiplayer gaming and that it was a viable option on a console, because prior to that it really wasn't. 4 player splitscreen may seem archaic by modern standards but if you had more than a couple of gamers in the house, you probably had an N64.

breh, the dude asked you to list psx game changers and you just take a random top 100 psx games list and post it and you wonder why people are shytting on the list. yes there are game changers on that list, but you didn't just list game changers, you just listed 100 games. you set yourself up there.

me personally, i enjoyed both systems but they played completely different. they both had a handful of classic games but realistically they both had a fair amount of shyt games too. i was lucky to have both because if you didn't get to experience the best of both you missed out, it really was a good time for gaming (i feel sorry for the kids who only had sega).

in my opinion, although the n64 was a superior and more capable system, I actually prefered the psx because they pushed their games to the maximum of what they could do with their system. the n64 really didn't really utilize their power, when they did they made some truely classic games that really deserved to be played, but it just wasn't as often as it should have been. the n64 anologue stick did revolutionize controls, but it wasn't perfect and did eventually wear down and fukk up after a couple of years.

but anyone denying the impact of the n64 and especially mario 64 had is a fukking idiot and needs to get their gamer card revoked.

Don't get it twisted...we used to be killing that Tekken, Soul Edge, FF7, Metal Gear etc. too...just that the N64 was ground breaking and at its best was superior to the PSX at its best in terms of enjoyment...which is what gaming is all about.
