One of the most beautiful and promising things I've ever seen is a promising KP work in the high post when he has time to work and a one on one.
One of the most clunky, clumsy and sad things I've ever seen is KP catching the ball in the post as a double team collapses on him.
Honorable sad mention: 'Sgust when I see Marcus Smart hold his own on defense while KP tries to post him up.
@storyteller articulated the point, perfectly.
I've also been part of the school of thought that Melo held KP. To hone my stance a little better, let me say KP NEEDS a dangerous offensive distraction on the court for him to be fully effective.
It doesn't have to be Melo but Melo has been the only outside or spot up shooting threat on KP's court.
Though I believe KP's potential is just only being scratched, I do feel hopeful that as we are clearly in the twilight of the Melo era, our prospective draft position, possible free agency, and developing role players will have the opportunity to provide KP with that no. 2 or that No. 1b player that will complement him by keeping the defense honest if the basketball gods through us another KP type bone.
Brings us to an exciting topic, actually - what does an excellently built team look like with a focus on KP?
I'd love to hear ya'll thoughts.
I'm thinking the best roster to work towards would be:
PG:
A pass first floor general w/ an outside shot that needs to be respected and atleast aggressive when he needs to drive. Does not need to be capable of carrying the scoring load, though. He needs to be the most mature and professional person on the court...Someone who takes any personality on the court and can pull them to the side on some, "Get in the fukking game and complain in the locker room, nikka!" type of shyt.
SG: A solid three and D guy. Doesn't need the ball in his hands and is excellent on the move, regarding cuts and rolls and able to find that spot for the sneaky corner three. (Actually, Courtney Lee is already that but our guard core should be defensive stalwarts through and through)
SF: A mobile and athletically gifted guy who can create his own shot. This should be either the alpha on the team or atleast the talented 1A option who shows effort on both sides of the court.
PF: If KP moves to the center position, then a mobile player that can take a mid range jumper, okay in the post, and agile enough to be sevricable on a mismatch on the perimeter after a PNR. His offense really doesn't need to be more versatile than an O'Quinn, honestly.
C: Hmm...I don't think KP should be playing PF after this year, honestly. If somehow he doesn't become a permanent big... Then an agile, defensive monster. Able to catch the highlight alley-oop and expected to get those put backs.
Anybody else? It's fun thinking about it.
The unstoppable scorer with a whopping 2 points halfway through the 1st quarter.![]()
