You can't expect a team like the Knicks to win every game they're favored in on a road trip. There was bound to be a flat night or two.
As far as Melo goes -- He's shooting like 38% for the last two weeks. It is what it is. He is a star in decline, there are going to be more "meh" and "hey! not bad!" nights than "wow" nights. He'll be 33 at the end of the this season, and he is the second best player on the team. This team needs him to be above .500. Even with the trash defense and shooting, he's still commanding enough attention to allow Lee to get open shots, and Rose to ahve some space to work, and KP to get lesser defenders/more space as well. He frees these guys up
Besides, if he is traded (which seems unlikely, but not impossible) people have to understand what an expensive, aging star RETURNS in a trade. It will not be what he would have gotten the knicks 2-3 years ago. It'll be a solid prospect and/or some picks of varying value. And that is ABSENT him agreeing to the trade.
Think less about people like Myles Turner or Brooklyn's 1st,
And more about Demarre Carroll/Cory Joseph and a late first. Melo for Johnson/Jerebko/Marcus Smart -- Melo/Holiday for Randolph/Brandan Wright/Vince Carter and a pick -- Melo/Holiday for Parker, Pau or Green and Dejounte Murray or Jonathan Simmons plus the rights to another player or pick -- THAT is the kind of deal you get for Melo at this point. Not because "he's a bum" but because the market for him has diminished, and also HE has diminished. He is not playing great basketball right now. He probably has more value to the knicks, and trying to field a competitive team, than he does to most teams in the league.
I think it's better to set our eyes on the Warriors game, see how they respond to playing against such an overwhelming talent, than it is to argue about Melo trades, or Rose's new injury.
