The only real longterm benefits I see to this season falling apart or tanking are as follows:

  • The Knicks decide not to re-up Rose on a longterm deal
  • You get a shot at a top-tier running mate for KP

I don't see them imploding, and I'm not arguing in favor of either, but those are the two main benefits. We're a month into the season, we shouldn't be thinking about "tanking" right now, they should be trying to play the best basketball possible. But that is the list of benefits. If you really like Rose, and think he's gonna get back to being a top 5-8 pg, then you can lose the second bullet.

There are plenty of benefits to playing well this season, so I won't bother doing a list, experience for KP, utilizing Melo's prime, showcasing KP (and to a lesser extent, Melo) to potential free agents, helping raise the profile of the game in general for free agents, shifting culture around the team, more experience for young/role players, energizing the fanbase and getting to root for a playoff team, etc etc etc.

I'm not debating the merits, but because people keep mentioning tanking, and then people in this thread immediately get defensive, I figured I'd lay it out clearly. This is not really something the team should be talking about right now, unless they have decided they want to move on from melo while he's playing solid basketball - and i have seen no evidence of such thinking from this organization.

Anyway, tonight is a game this team should be able to win. Let's go.

I really can't see us being a bottom-feeding team this year. We've made a lot of progress.

Rose has to prove that he can maintain his health.

We should call up Randle.

As for Noah, I hope he can somehow prove us all wrong and back up the tough-talk from the preseason.

Giving Rose a longterm deal would be so Knicks.

What do you want them to do if they don't resign Rose at the 1?

They have a pick or they can sign a younger player who wont be as expensive. Could probably bring back Jennings too. Giving Rose anything extended from this year would be insane. He's not going to get any better than what he is now and I dont think he's any good now either.

Why are so many people against resigning Rose? As long as his contract is reasonable then I don't mind. I think he's been pretty decent for us and he'll already be familiar with the Triangle. :yeshrug: Plus the whole banking on a big fish free agent to sign here nonsense hasn't worked out so well for the Knicks. :russell:

Please go.

So you'd prefer to lock in another big contract to another injury prone older player who shoots a lot but can't shoot? That I'm sure is going to lead to a lot of wins in the long run.

I would love to resign Rose long term...at around Courtney Lee's price and locked in as a sixth man scoring punch guard though :troll:

Anyway, game starting and Courtney Lee is just unleashed his entire arsenal in three plays...floater, three pointer, pump fake to a midrange pull up...
