Harlem and brooklyn looking like maine
Nice but incorrect, Nyc is where the jobs are, this is place people want to move too, no one wants to move to some hick town down south where there is no jobs. BK because it has been revived by business men who saw a wasted land and took a chance on bring it back. You say people who lived in that area all their life are being forced out. True but if those same people would have kept the area up, reported crime and stressed education among their kids and themselves, they would doing better. If you doing something besides working retail, security and crap jobs you can keep your place and be educated enough like the people in Cooper union did to unite and defeat the group that wanted their housing units. Don't hate people because they move into your area, it is a waste of time. People have to get up and progress, when people die someone else moves into the apartment. I lived in Astoria, and got priced out, i took a look in the mirror and saw that i was falling off, i knew the job i was at was a dead end, i took steps to improve my life and i live in a better place, everyone should do that and realize if you don't own your place, and if your area is trash and your landlord says i want these people out it will happen.it just irks me when i see these f*cking hipsters because they basically coming from towns west and north of here with their money from mommy and daddy, jacking up the rent and forcing people that lived there for years OUT of town. i have a huge problem with that. these are the same people whose parents and grandparents did the whole white flight thing. they were told by their mommy and daddy to stay away from brooklyn because it was dangerous and were filled with black people who couldn't control themselves. all of a sudden, some kid has some balls to move to brooklyn where he basically takes over a block and some other kids do the same thing where they basically are cleaning out a neighborhood for them and people that are like them. if there's one thing that i've noticed, i've noticed that these hipsters are usually a bunch of white people that try to front like they're open minded but are in reality, ignorant as f*ck. that's my issue with them. you basically run the people that lived there for years so you can be trendy or whatever the f*ck. f*ck these hipsters.
Whoa hold up, you want blacks doing petty crime and going to jail? You want these kids not doing drugs and killing each other to do so to be "manly" in your eyes? Where is Kermit the hustler and Esau? Kermit made a point about how guys would show out and harm each other for the camera and run and help the whites move into to their apartments while they got records and limited futures, i am not down with that nonsense, you know how you scare whites? Success, being bright, not harming each other and putting others down who want do the same. That scares them more than anything negative because that is against the grain. Most niccas from the crack era are gone cause they got too old. Imagine being old as Sean Price still scaring white folk and still doing petty crime shyt?
the 90s babies of the black community are different and not want to be thugs anymore, thanks to Weezy and Obama. Guess that what Bloomberg wanted all along: NYC without the real street thugs.
Nobody is moving to the hood with "mommy and daddy" moneyit just irks me when i see these f*cking hipsters because they basically coming from towns west and north of here with their money from mommy and daddy, jacking up the rent and forcing people that lived there for years OUT of town. i have a huge problem with that. these are the same people whose parents and grandparents did the whole white flight thing. they were told by their mommy and daddy to stay away from brooklyn because it was dangerous and were filled with black people who couldn't control themselves. all of a sudden, some kid has some balls to move to brooklyn where he basically takes over a block and some other kids do the same thing where they basically are cleaning out a neighborhood for them and people that are like them. if there's one thing that i've noticed, i've noticed that these hipsters are usually a bunch of white people that try to front like they're open minded but are in reality, ignorant as f*ck. that's my issue with them. you basically run the people that lived there for years so you can be trendy or whatever the f*ck. f*ck these hipsters.
Most intelligent post so far.People complain about the hood being white washed.... but look at Chinatown. Those motherfukkers came, got their money up, bought their buildings, and own their neighborhood. They got skrenfh. We should have been building that strength over the last few decades.

Disagree maybe you just look or have a chump vibe about you. Even suckers will try to pick on somebody they think they can get away with it.The hood is the worst place to be Black. I was in the hood last night and the whole time I felt like a sitting duck. Not a hot look at all, breh.
How the Hell am I trolling with the truth? People with money want to live in these areas. People without money need to leave where the demand for realestate is lower. Simple economics.
What I don't understand is how all of you people think there is some virtue or benefit to having large populations of poor, crime ridden slums in the middle of cities where people who work need to live in peace.
I don't get it.
The Chinese who came to NYC in the early 20th century came from the West Coast to escape discrimination and find work...The Chinese bought up Chinatowns 100 years ago, and most of the Chinese that moved to the big cities had 2 things that blacks didn't have
1. The Chinese who came to The US/Canada are the ones usually with some money. How else do you think they left China?
2. The ones who didn't have money came together during the railroad, and connected with the ones who did have money thereby congregating in big cities to create Chinese communities. Can't compare this to African Americans, who were slaves and actively abused by the system moreseo than the Chinese, who were left to their own devices.

Chinese also are very big on saving $$$
Blacks who came to NYC during that period also came to find work and often did... as well as formed enclaves etc. We had the cards stacked against us, but a lot of our habits + cultural norms didn't help
This is what I look like on any given weekday save for Friday:Disagree maybe you just look or have a chump vibe about you. Even suckers will try to pick on somebody they think they can get away with it.
No evidence to suggest the bolded.
First of all its disingenuous for two immigrants of African descent to be talking about the cultural norms of African Americans in the early 20th/late19th century as if it were our own experience, so we should avoid that.
Secondly we're having a discussion about accrued capital and its effects on immigrant group success, so lets examine this. Black people moving north from former slave states had one thing in common with one another, and a big difference between them and the Chinese. I wonder if you can read between the lines.
