Any place with high home ownership and poor public transportation to the city will not be gentrified.

There's a reason Canarsie is among the neighborhoods in the city where rents haven't budged relative to inflation in the past ten years. There aren't exactly a ton of apartment buildings, people aren't really selling their homes like that, and there's only one subway line (the L train) serving the whole neighborhood, and you're looking at 30 - 35 minutes minimum just to get to 14th Street from Rockaway Parkway

Neighborhoods like that aren't really going to appeal to the transplant types

Sunset park is being gentrified although the Asians are fighting back. Will Brownsville and ENY be the next target? Cuz gentrification is only happening in places close to the city. I doubt you will see professionals going to Jamaica or Hollis. Taking the A train from Jamaica to the city is long as fukk. Brownsville is just too :sadcam: for them white folks.

Southside Jamaica Queens and even some parts of Northside lowkey being gentrified but black folks aren't really budging with their property

I remember walking around the train station on my way to buy some fish back in July. I had never seen so many white folks in the area in my entire life.

I've been here my entire life.

I was just
:dahell:

Not sure if they were just on their way somewhere else and just there because of the transit station, but still. :aicmon:

All I can say is whenever I go through Bushwick and especially Williamsburg I have the permanent :mjlol: on my face. shyt is so different now than it was growing up that's really all you can do. The people living there now would have been food in the 90s

But since we can't put our petty differences aside and build together this shyt will continue to happen.

Actually if we didn't let a small group of people wreck the community in the 90's instead of holding them accountable for polluting the area with drugs and crime that drove the area into the ground we would be fine . Driving property down and letting developers come in and buy it up cheap is the problem . Committing stupid crimes against each other and getting records that held us back is a problem. Having the chance to stress education was lost big time in that era. You said whites would have been food in the past which is true but they would have gotten caught got records and would be a burden to friends and family trying to do good. The only way we can make it is stop glorifying crimes and stress education and knowledge of self like the Asian community does . That's the only way.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Have you ever lived in the hood? nikkas are not robbing and getting into drugs for fun. They are doing that shyt because the economic opportunities in the hood are not there and they feel hopeless. These little zombies out here fukking shyt up in these neighborhoods that you see today? Keep in mind that their behavior is a product of them seeing nothing but poverty and no opportunities from the day they are able to maintain a conscious memory. That shyt shapes you...in a horrendous way.

Obviously getting into crime and destroying your record compounds the initial economic problem, but 'glorification' of crimes is not what is making cats get (and stay...and stay is the key component here that nobody likes to talk about) into gangs and crime. What the black community is doing poorly now is reinvesting in itself. Period. Ain't nobody gonna wanna hear shyt about any education and knowledge of self when they hustling to ensure their next meals.

You didn't really read my post, I was talking about the 90's and you giving the excuse people hungry from poverty, okay what about the Asians and Mexicans ? Also the drug lords could have invested in the hoods like the 70's Kings did. Put some money in local businesses , pay some family rent or put a kid throu college. I lived in Shreveport before coming to NYC , poor as fukk but I didn't say let me sell drugs because I'm hungry , took whatever shyt job I could get and saved got better jobs. My folks didn't put me thru college , I had to do what I could and I hope to get my degree in the future. But do you and rationalize it.

First of all, Asians and Mexicans are not coming from generational poverty so the hopeless mentality isn't as prevalent, especially in their elders.

Second, I'm not rationalizing shyt. I'm not going to get on here and brag but from what I came from to where I am now nobody can tell me anything about doing it on my own and becoming an absolute success in my industry. But I am letting you know the reality of the situation, because a lot of us don't try to understand what is going on in these people's heads when we come up with these 'solutions' and how to reach them. Opportunities need to be created for learning of trades, and that will probably have to come from the government level, and the richest of us need to create jobs in our communities as opposed to getting our money and running and pouring it elsewhere. But the pull yourself up by the boostraps shyt is only going to happen on an individual level, it will never be a strong community wide solution.

Yeah man it's a weird feeling. Especially hearing that Collie Mall is turning into a Macy's soon. We gotta buy up some property around there cause the rush is coming very soon.

My thing is with all this construction I am surprised that the real estate here isnt a bubble. NYC survived the real estate bubble in 2007-2009. At some point you cant keep building condos and expect folks to live here. The majority of the city lower middle class and below the poverty.

I'm still mind blown at people paying those prices in Manhattan. I look off the expressway and see all that construction, why would I pay those kind of prices? And you see all those white people walking down the stairs on the Brooklyn Bridge holding their bikes...its cheaper to live in Jersey. I don't see a bubble happening in the city anytime soon, cause those folks love the idea of living in New York City. That shyt is for the birds.

Yeah you got suburban cacs from Long Island, upstate, New Jersey and across the country want to move to NYC cuz what they see in tv. There is construction every where bruh. Here in Sunset they are planning to build some some big fashion building near the Army Terminal. shyt is crazy. This cant go on forever. The bubble will burst but not anytime soon.
