Randy Shannon did this same shyt at Miami.....didn't work out to well. On the other hand, Urban Meyer let his players run wild and won two titles. At the end of the day, it's still about getting elite football players and good X's and O's. Bullshyt motivational ploys mean nothing once August 30th gets here.

Bringing up Randy is apples / oranges though. Instilling discipline might be the only thing they had in common. Strong has already proven he can run an organization and win. Randy had zero head coaching experience. He should have never been coach at Miami.

None of the players that have been kicked off were real game changers like that. Even the staunchest haters of Strong aren't stupid enough to blast him for not winning with players that aren't his. He didn't recruit any of them.

A lock he won't win a bowl bid which Mack Brown did last season that got him fired. Longhorns went 8-5 so Strong has to be atleast around 7-8 wins since that's the level of talent that got their previous coached fired and while I'm not that clear on Longhorn football it doesn't look like they lost alot of players for this coming season (and I mean players that were seniors and not kicked off by Strong lol).

Sure those players might not have been game changers but they were depth that he no longer has, and Mack Brown actually needed that depth when they injuries started to rack up, what's Strong going to do about that problem? Filling the roster with morally upstanding walk ons will get him nowhere fast. Even though these are Mack Brown's players Charlie Strong has to win alot of games especially the OU game which Mack Brown won last season by the way or none of this 'earn your keep' talk matters at all.

That sounds good, but it's an ineffective tactic. He needs to focus on winning more recruiting battles against A&M instead of trying to use silly motivational ploys. Talent trumps all of that other bullshyt.

He needs to set the tone for what Texas football is going to be under his watch, and then the players will follow suit..

I know for a fact that dude had at least a couple of PAWG side chicks when he was here at Louisville. Then went in the locker room lecturing to the players about treating women with respect.

Is Charlie Strong serious with this? His players have to earn the right the throw up a hand gesture? Okay, I give this dude 2 of the 3 years before all is discipline ploys backfire horribly and end up dooming him. granted these are little issues but they are the first things that come up if he doesn't win and I haven't heard anything about his coaching yet, just his character building tactics.

It's nice that Charlie wants accountability and players to brush their teeth and eat their veggies and earn every little thing but who won the National Championship? undisciplined ass FSU and they were lead by a guy that would have been kicked of Charlie Strong's Longhorns like 10 times for all of his off the field incidents. All this old school Bear Byrant ass taking away logos laying down the law means nothing if they don't win and he has already kicked off enough players to pretty much make it a lock he won't this season.

Difference is Strong is a really good coach. He's had success as a D coordinator and a head coach. I think it can work, but Texas has to give him time.

You make good points except for the cheating part. Shannon wanted nothing to do with Nevin Shapiro and pushed him away from the program. He was a shytty coach, but he ran a clean program.

If this is true, he won't be able to do this in state of Texas, especially if it's a white woman(certainly not while he's married to another white woman).....unless he's winning games.
