New Texas coach Charlie Strong wants his team understand and respect the history of the Longhorns program. To get his point across, he’s taking some of the staples of the program away from players and making them “earn it.”

With preseason camp underway, according to Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods.com, Strong has removed the famous Longhorns logo from the helmet of every player.

During spring practice in March, Strong prohibited his players from throwing up the classic “hook ‘em horns” hand signal and he even had the Longhorn logo in the locker room roped off so it can’t be walked on. https://twitter.com/ChrisTavarez/status/491632338720133121

The former Louisville coach has proven that he means business. In the past few weeks, a significant number of players have been suspended or kicked off the team due to violating team rules. Strong is trying to establish a culture.

He wants to make things clear that Texas players will be held to a higher standard under his leadership. Removing the logos from the helmets is just another way to get his point across.

A large part of the reason Texas has been so bad over the last few years is the inmates were running the asylum. They had atalent, but Mack Brown lost control of the program years ago. I'll doubt Strong will be this strict throughout his tenure, but this was necessary to set the tone for them to turn things around. I'm sure any Longhorn fan or college football fan that lives in Texas would agree with what I'm saying, because they know how crazy those dudes were going during Mack Brown's last few years.

I hate UT, but I respect Strong for what he's doing because that program was becoming a joke with the way things were going down there with Mack Brown.
It actually started before the 2007 season. Any Texas fan will remember that summer. Just pull it up and you will see for the others. Arrest after arrest. 2010 should have happened a couple years back but the leadership of Colt delayed that and thus they had a great two year run in 08 and 09. Mack simply should have left after 2009.

Randy Shannon did this same shyt at Miami.....didn't work out to well. On the other hand, Urban Meyer let his players run wild and won two titles. At the end of the day, it's still about getting elite football players and good X's and O's. Bullshyt motivational ploys mean nothing once August 30th gets here.

Urban Meyer also does something similar (removing black stripes from practice helmets)

Strong has a history of getting his teams to be locked in with strategy. I don't think we have to worry about that part with him. Players know when they need to get knocked down a peg or two. If this team was full of honorable hard working cats then this would just be a bullshyt ploy, but they actually need to respect where they are.

Dude seems like a c00n to me too :yeshrug:

I'm fine with curfews, but I don't necessarily see why Strong has to go harder than other coaches. That only makes the case that athletes are incapable of taking care of themselves and need to be babied, meanwhile those same athletes are getting exploited for billions of dollars by Strong's rich cac benefactors. I think players should be able to live on campus and given the freedom to make their own decisions, rather than controlled and corralled like money slave cows.

Part of being a Head Coach for any athletic team, consists of one crucial aspect that doesn't involve sports.

The ability to reign in players, and help them become men is probably the most undervalued trait a coach can have..

as a college football head coach, you're effectively a surrogate father for about 100 males who are either still teens, or just coming into adulthood... it's not only your job to make sure you make them the best football players they can be, it's also your job to mold them into the best men that they can be.

Him doing shyt like this, is an attempt to create a culture of responsibility/accountability among the players....

Football coaches have been doing this shyt for decades, and for the most part... it does work... there will always be outliers within this tactic.

everyone from the military, to biker gangs have been doing shyt like this...with the desired results:heh:

I know for a fact that dude had at least a couple of PAWG side chicks when he was here at Louisville. Then went in the locker room lecturing to the players about treating women with respect. :mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:

Ima let him cook tho. Hes a solid coach even tho his offensive play calling is trash.

A guy can have side chicks and still respect women.

It's not about the fukking decals being removed :snoop:

it's the attempt to make them prove themselves worthy of playing for the team and instill some pride in playing for the team..... or did you not get that?
