Battle of the bladed hands and other worldly powers. Both work with avatars which has some similarities to possession in the early iterations. Candyman seems like he HAS to operate in the real world via his avatar (he comes through them not to them if that makes sense); Freddy NEEDS his victim asleep to physically harm them in the real world. I think the biggest gap though is that Freddy kinda got dragged into reality and was beatable once he got there. Candyman never slipped up like that early on.
I find it kinda funny that their always framing someone else too since both rely on being believed in as a source of power. The stalemate is that Candyman ain't sleeping and Freddy would be a fool to call Candyman out and empower him. But on neutral ground we've seen Freddy can be beaten, Candyman was ever only an ephemeral presence on the real side of things. So edge to Candyman...
I also like to picture Candyman attaching to different avatars and doing his dirty work through them. He'd have Helen dragging Freddy back to reality right in time for the bonfire.
