I’m not surprised that this happened. It just seems too convenient that the international war machine never lets up.

Too bad Biden and all of our elected representatives are warmongers so they’ll have to spin this into more military action instead of less.

The lesson learned should be that we shouldn’t have been there so long without an exit strategy.

Unfortunately, the lesson the media and politicians are going to push is that we should still be there because that’s what butters their bread.

If Trump won in 2020, this pullout would still be happening. And if you think this thing would have gone better on his watch, you must be smoking that good hashish that the afghans be smoking

:russ:
Exactly. 2024 is a long way off and if a Republican wins what are they gonna do, want to go back in and piss away another few trillion. The bomber never got inside, they were in the process of searching him and set off the explosive. We need to get the fukk out and let the Taliban deal with Isis.

it isn't ISIS. this is like how american media call any group of black people protesting BLM.

look at a map. ISIS is on the other side of Iran. Iran and ISIS DO NOT get along, and there is no way the persians would allow them to cross their borders to get to Afghanistan, not to mention the HUGE distance to get there as Iran is a massive country. The only group this could be is the NRF.

American media won't say that, because they are arming them.
ISIS-K is completely different from ISIS. all of their members and leaders are afghani and pakistani

its like the al-Qaeda and al-Qaeda in Iraq. they just take the name of a better known group for clout

Isis-k is an offshoot of Isis from disgruntled taliban members from Pakistan. They are crossing the borders from Pakistan, but Pakistan is our 'ally'.

If this is how drawdowns work why were military taken out before interpreters, dual nationals and embassy staff ?

Since you were over there do you think they’ll send troops in or give aid to Taliban to get rid of Isis-K or just say fukk it and see what happens?

This people aren’t even considered non-essential. Everyone listed would either be born there or came on their own (anyone can fly to a country bordering Afghanistan and catch a ride to where they’re going). Embassy staff, (relatively this isn’t a large scale war) are last to go unless a deal is made to keep an embassy there. Taliban is on their own with the IS. But the potential of the northern alliance coming back makes this whole situation unpredictable.

The State Department briefed Congress last week on a call that ISIS had been in Afghanistan.

How Biden a warmonger when he the one trying to end the war tho?

:mjlol:

And I think he spins this into a W at the end of the day.

Folks keep saying this is his benghazi but benghazi didn't keep Obama from getting a second term and that actually went down during campaign season of 2012.

Heck 9/11 happened in Bush's first year and he became more popular afterwards (it wasn't until his second term that everybody went :beli:)

Facts are that the majority of Americans want the Afghanistan war to be over. Biden is ensuring that happens.

He's taking a hit from the media cause the military industrial complex pays them to shell out certain narratives from time to time. But after this is all said and done, I think Biden bounces back strong.

US troops, Afghans killed in attacks outside Kabul airport
Updated 3:20 PM EDT August 26, 2021

Twelve US service members and dozens of Afghans have been killed in two bombing attacks outside Kabul's airport, according to the Pentagon and Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Health.

The deadly blasts came as the United States and other Western countries raced to complete a massive evacuation of their citizens and Afghan allies following the Taliban takeover of the country.

An official with Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Health told CNN on Thursday that more than 60 people were dead and 140 wounded.

Fifteen US service members were injured in addition to the 12 dead, said Gen. Frank McKenzie, Commander of US Central Command.

US officials have been warning over the past week that a threat of a terror attack at the airport was becoming more acute. Earlier on Thursday local time, US diplomats in Kabul warned American citizens to "immediately" leave several gates into the airport, citing security threats.

A US defense official had also told CNN that officials were concerned by a "very specific threat stream" involving the ISIS affiliate in Afghanistan.

US officials believe the group, ISIS-K, was likely behind today's attack but are still working to confirm its involvement, according to a senior US official and another source briefed on initial assessments. The second source told CNN it may take a few hours before US officials are able to identify the specific individuals who carried out the apparent suicide bombing.

Thousands of Afghans have been gathering at the airport's gates in recent days, trying to be evacuated.

Kirby said earlier that one of the explosions happened "at the airport's Abbey Gate" and "at least one other explosion happened at or near the Baron Hotel, a short distance from Abbey Gate."

Abbey Gate has become the main entry point to the airport and primary security there has been provided by US Marines.

The area around Abbey Gate had been used for holding refugees after they passed through the Taliban check points outside the airport, and before they were allowed to go to the airport.

Baron Hotel was used by British soldiers and other allies as an evacuation handling center to process evacuees, before moving them up to the Abbey Gate. It is unclear whether international forces were still in the area when the explosion happened.

The US Embassy in Kabul said US citizens who were at the Abbey Gate, East Gate, or North Gate of the airport "should leave immediately" in the wake of the blast.

"There has been a large explosion at the airport, and there are reports of gunfire," the security alert said. "US citizens should avoid traveling to the airport and avoid airport gates at this time," it added.

US President Joe Biden has been briefed on the explosions, a White House official said.

Evacuations slowing down

Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated by the US military and NATO allies from the airport in the past two weeks. These evacuations are set to start winding down in the next few days, ahead of US' August 31 deadline for the final exit from a 20-year war in Afghanistan.

Biden had cited the risk of a terror attack among the reasons for getting US troops out of the country by August 31. He had also promised a swift and forceful response to any disruption to the operation.

The numbers of people evacuated have already started dwindling down. From 3am ET Wednesday to 3am ET Thursday, 13,400 people were evacuated from Afghanistan, with approximately 5,100 via US military flights and 8,300 via coalition flights. That compares to 21,000 evacuated over the 24-hour period from Monday to Tuesday and 19,000 between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Over 95,700 people have been evacuated since August 14 and over 101,300 since the end of July.

Several European countries, including Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland, announced their evacuation missions would end on Thursday. Denmark said its last flight left Afghanistan on Wednesday evening. Canada's efforts have also come to an end, General Wayne Eyre, Canada's acting chief of defense staff, said in a virtual briefing Thursday.

In the wake of the blast, French President Emmanuel Macron warned the situation around the airport had seriously deteriorated. "As we speak, we have 20 buses of dual citizens and Afghans that we would like to be able to repatriate," he said. "I cannot guarantee that we will be successful because the security situation is beyond our control."

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK will continue its evacuation operation from Kabul despite the "barbaric" attack.

"I think [these attacks] are despicable, but I'm afraid that this is something we have had to prepare for. It isn't going to interrupt our progress, we are going to get on with our evacuation," he later added, speaking to British media in London.

Earlier on Thursday, Johnson chaired an emergency meeting of the Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms (COBR), a Downing Street spokesperson told CNN.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday that those who have not yet been able to access evacuation flights from Kabul will not be forgotten, adding that the German Foreign Ministry is still in negotiations with the Taliban.

"We know that the window of opportunity is closing. Tens of thousands of people have been rescued but I want to say again today: we will not forget those people who could not be rescued by the air bridge. Rather we will do everything we can to enable their evacuation," Merkel said.

Abdullah Abdullah, the chairman of Afghanistan's Reconciliation Committee under the previous government condemned the attacks on Thursday. "I strongly condemn the terrorist attack at Kabul Airport which killed and wounded a large number of the civilians," he said in a tweet.

Early on Thursday CNN reported the Taliban has taken away security from former Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah.

I work at a conservative media outlet. The spin is incredible. They're basically saying yes, a lot of the people still there are contractors, and they were told to get out ahead of time. But it's still our responsibility to get them out.
Which conservative media outlet?
