Yep. So unofficially (if it wasn't apparent to folks) the US and the Taliban are now "allies". Both parties have a vested interest in this whole Isis situation getting resolved as quickly as possible.

If it comes to fighting the Coalition/US would just kill both parties. Or provide ass for all the non-Pashto ethnic groups, that want to rebel against the Taliban, so they can kill the Taliban while the Taliban fight Isis. I could be wrong but it would take something very notable for the coalition to link with the Taliban. This could end up like Yemen or Syria (both very different situations)

if you were in afghanistan, willingly, after bagram packed it up - you should've been on the next thing smoking out of there.... the writing has been the wall for a very long time.

That's what I'm saying. I have no sympathy for those that chose to stay. The minute they announced they were withdrawing in May I would have hopped on the first flight out of there. Even if it is a military casualty do you know how many have been killed the last few months during the drawdown?? I read that the sons of the old Mujahadeen are taking up arms in the hinterlands. They won't stand a chance but if they get support from the west who knows.

But this was bound to happen the moment we left regardless. The loss of life is absurd and tragic but at some point we had to get out.
