Not surprised by this. This show feels more like a plot device towards the Marvels movie I know Ms. Marvel is a popular but it's not translating to live action very well this isn't me hating the show just probably won't be invested in it until the next to last episode or the last episode

Feel the same. Tried to get my 12 yr old into it and even she isn’t feeling it. She admitted she’s not interested anymore in this latest phase of the MCU which I found weird cause she’s been a Day 1 let’s go see the movie type

I think the issue is they took a character that wasn't particularly popular (outside of the gen z audience), drastically altered her character for a TV show and then released her show concurrently with Kenobi. and never even introduced or hinted at the character prior to giving her a show.

Keep mind comicbook fans come in all ages, my Dad is 60 and he collected comics back in the 70s and 80s. So for him, he likes the classic characters, Avengers, X-men, FF4. Newer characters like Kamala Ms Marvel he's never heard of. They probably should have introduced her in Captain Marvel 2 before giving her a solo series.

Show is actually good though imo despite all this.

the show's main plot is told as subtext for an older audience and there isn't actually that much for a younger audience. even kamala and her friend mainly discuss serious adult subjects (election, sexism in the mosque, colorism and racism). are kids going to understand the illuminati referemce, or "mosque bros"? every interaction with the teachers is layered and layered in such a way that kids will find it hard to follow. that is why adults are praising the show.

it has a tarantino-esque quality about character interplay but do kids want to see that? adults will find her headmaster funny. kids will think he is weird.

meanwhile the show is low on spectacle (so far). she has used her powers in anger for about 20 seconds so far. i don't have a problem with that but kids are more likely to find it boring as a result.

it's the same subtext situation as toy story or into the spiderverse (which is why adults also find them entertaining) but these latter two remember to keep younger minds engaged as well.

I'm not surprised this hasn't been doing that well considering they've alienated the target audience for weeks before this came out.

And with Moon Knight being mid I doubt anybody is really in a rush for a new MCU show.

Show is better than I expected, and the production is really good. Shorty isn't bad in her first acting gig either.

That whole 2nd episode I'm like "They got this full grown man driving a Porsche swooning over this chubby little girl"....then the end of the episode I'm like "yeah, makes sense now":pachaha:

Not feeling the route they went with her powers, but I'll wait and see how it goes

She's not drastically altered though. The personality is exactly the same, and the feel of the show is that of the earlier books. The only thing that was changed was her powerset, which I'm not a fan of, but everything else surrounding the show is too good. Overall, it's fun. She's very popular amongst comic book readers of all ages.
