MPC Live and MPC X

I have not used the Live or X. I was a 2000xl, 4000, 1000 user prior to the Maschine. I prefer the Maschine due to the fact my workflow is a lot faster. Chopping samples is more intuitive on the MK3 than on the MPCs.


This what people don't get its the workflow of the machine mk3 . The two screen is really and they have some dope ass sample packs. MPC at this stage is a legacy brand. Machine just need to fix the arrangement shyt ( even thoe it just makes me more creative) tap into the stand alone market and make the DAW aspect better that really it for native instruments .

Im just getting into the Live and SP404 (and the entire world of music production for that matter) but sample chopping on the Live is profoundly easy. There's a built in feature that is basically a "lazy chop". But chopping and having the screen to help your ear determine where to chop is dope because and you break it down to the milliseconds.

I don't know I use my ear because since I was younger I've always had a decent ear . It's easy for me to chop samples in mashcine coming from FL studio . I plan on getting an SP-303 ...I've done my research and some of the greatest have said it better than the 404 ....



Get a chance to read you'll see EXACTLY why I'm choosing the 303 ...it's something that the 404 dosent do ....

Get a chance to read you'll see EXACTLY why I'm choosing the 303 ...it's something that the 404 dosent do ....

Me too and I think I favor it because it gives your chop a more authentic and human feel to them.

I probably will cop the MPC one since it is standalone and travel size instead of the iPad now that I think about(it's cheaper than the iPAD with I TB hard drive ) . At first the lack of memory scared me until I seen that SD card slot ....

yep most producers with grand productions styles such as nottz, needles, 9th, krysis done switch over to the maschine from the Mpcs. Akai is basically playing catch up to some shyt they should of been leading the industry in from the jump.

They might add it to the Arsenal. That's what you do in the music biz. There's no "just one" machine or program. Plenty of cats have a playground, you see there studios and they have all sorts of Akai's, rolands, keyboards, synths...

Even if it's one sound, one gritty filter, one effect, you don't get rid of it...You never know when your track needs that 1. It's not about jumping ship and quitting certain programs,
machines, or instruments it's about mastering whatever it is you get your hands on.

You do have a good point, I never got rid of my other samplers, but I sure dont use them no more. That maschine done took the top spot for sure for me. I do see the newer Mpcs done took a lot of ideas from Native Instrument products. A maschine and SP 303 combo is straight amazing.

:salute: it's your garage breh. They are your tools. You might have 12 hammers and 30 screwdrivers but they are yours.

I agree but I disagree. One thing I learned from dilla and madlib is it's not so much about the new sound or old skool sound it's about taking a machine and making it sound HUMAN. Like dilla didnt have a lot of studio equipment he was actually very minimalistic as well is madlib. I'm not going to get into the story about madlib doing majority of Freddie Gibbs bandana album on and iPAD some of the beats was made on the Sp-303.

My point thoe is the MPC one and the SP-303 will be my last purchases as far as my complete studio goes . Take what you have and see if you can make it human ...make funky. See if you can get into every aspect of what you use and use it to a musical sense .



Dilla equipment starts at 2:21-2:24 this worth anybody time if y'all haven't seen it. Watching this I got a ways to go :wow:

I get what your saying but making it human ain't about what equipment you got, it's how well you use it.

There's an old video of pharrell he talks about mastering your equipment. If you don't got or can't afford "xxx" don't stop making beats. Squeeze every drop of blood from that. It's not about having this or that, or not having this or that. Hip hop was built off of people not having this or that, sampling breaks, layering melodies, not being able to do this or that, taking all that together and making music.

This is our art, our medium. Whether your using paint, pastels, colored pencils, markers, spray paint, crayons, whether your tools are hammers and screw drivers, drills, chisels....there ain't no wrong or right, better or worse it's about what you do with them.

I agree also people tend to forget that DIlla did use the sp1200 as well. Poeple also forget that the MPC is a sampler. The sounds all got to be created by users creativity. Dilla used his natural rhythm and no quantize. Thats why his beats sounded so loose. And yes the Neptunes early hits all were off the Korg Trition combo with an ASR-10 keyboard sampler(Jake one weapon of choice).

That what I meant when talking about dilla he always said it wasn't much special with him persay but it was the TIME he had in the MPC 3000. I think it was amazing that he finished and editing the donuts album while in the hospital ...it was made in the Sp 303. Always aim to master the equipment . I would go out on a limb and say that dilla really dosent have a style his TIMING is what is special to me he has a good ear fro loops and chopping them making them sound like a loop.
