It's an old one, but Stripes. It goes from a comedy movie about men in basic training into a romantic comedy.
It's not as good of an example as FMJ, but similar in the sense that it all changes after basic training.

Titanic: romance, then action

At no point does anyone on the boat say, "What does this story about your fling have to do with the necklace? What did you do with the necklace?" Then, after listening to this long ass 3 hour story, she's like "Oh, I lost it." Then, the bytch drops that shyt in the water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She could have left it to her granddaughter who was taking care of her.

Also, reading through some pages, its like some of yall are shytting on movies cuz of turns like this. I dont think its always for the worse tho.

Prime example a movie that I believe is HIGHLY underated and I believe off the strength of it being a BLACK movie is Next Day Air.

That movie in the trailers just looked like another typical black comedy and even starting off, that shyt does have its share of laughs, but somewhere down the line, that shyt gets really serious and turns into something you wouldnt expect it to be

That movie was DOPE to me

Hacksaw Ridge is a good recent example. Everybody watching it knew it was a war movie but the first half was so soft and light, it almost reminded me of a made for TV movie with the way it was acted and filmed. Then once the war pieces start it gets fukking INSANE and becomes such a stark contrast to the first half that it feels like two tonally different films.

10 Cloverfield Lane is another one where I think everyone had an idea of what to expect but like 95% of the movie was this psychological horror flick with bits and pieces dropped as to what was going on outside the house, but not seeing it till the last 5-10 minutes. If you didn’t know of the connection to the Cloverfield universe before going in and just assumed it was John Goodman kidnapping this girl you’d be real :dwillhuh: by that ending
