Having 17k in the bank is not enough to prove to a property manager that you can afford to be approved to live in their vicinity. That's not the way it works, you don't show up and say "I have 17k in the bank" and automagically get approved.

I got family in both and I'll pull up in WP and holla at them whenever. But I aint going into Auburn-Gresham after the sun goes down. In WP Ill walk from my cousins spot down to the stores on 63rd. nikka I wont even go outside even in the daytime over in Auburn-Gresham. So if the mom was living there then if she moved, WP should be a walk in the park for her. From what my fam up there says that area just gets all the hype because of the BD's and the rap shyt. Its not the worst area in the city by any stretch.

Fam, I don't even have a SSN let alone credit history in this country but I was still able to rent a nice crib in VA and then again in MD at the end of the day these businesses trying to get paid

Lets say she moved to a new city and let's assume she has a full 17k in the bank, when it's time to find an apartment or house, she has to be able to demonstrate that she can afford it. There's usually a credit check and proof of employment via check stubs. She wouldn't have a job to verify employment and there's also the hurdle of renters history.

Nonsense! There are many private owners of apartments/homes that are lenient with people that have no, little or bad credit, especially if you have a letter of recommendation from a previous landlord/rental office which states you have stellar payment history &/or you can provide a much larger down payment than would normally be required. Also there are services that help some less fortunate find places to reside by matching potential apt/home owners/entities with prospective renters based on their current needs.

The alternative is to move in low income housing in her new city where they aren't as strict with eligibility requirements and will take anyone with a down payment and then the cycle continues because those areas usually have higher crime and less opportunity.

Even if this is the case, there are still other cities/states which would be a much better alternative for one to support themselves, while allowing them to modify their circumstances & rise out of the poverty gutter than Chicago, or for that matter the state of Illinois which happens to be 8th highest in U.S. unemployment statistics.

So, it's not a foreign concept for poor people with essentially nothing or no existing opportunities to uproot themselves & move to another state or city to improve their fortunes, as it's done everyday.
