really now :jbhmm:? I see your point. Could be a network issue too though. Connections are do or die in arts and media.

Lol yeah, and it probably really does come down to connections. Cause most of the people in those jobs also have their MFA. Art is almost completely funded by rich people so it kinda makes sense that the inner dealings of that world would be hard for someone to get into unless they really try. But sadly nobody really tries.

Philosophy, Econ, I’m gonna throw in social work- not overrated but it’s bloated.

I applied to an engineering school first and got denied, probably should’ve just went that way period. I’m a solid writer and thinker but research is annoying.

I plan on going back to school in a slower environment for my advanced degree though.
Yea social work is bloated but you gotta hand it to those folks .
They go in knowing they won't make money and still have to get a masters .

My ex was a social worker it's a fulfilling job breh .

She has a masters and doesn't make crazy money but loves her job .

She be like nobody gives a fukk about these kids :mjcry:.

Professional writing is grossly underrated. Most people laugh at any degrees relating to English but jobs like technical writing are critical to helping engineering projects and they won't be going away anytime soon.
I might need to look into this :patrice:
If you have a propensity for writing man, do it. It's sad that the stigma around English related degrees has stopped people who have a knack for writing from looking into stuff like Professional Writing where they can make a good living do what they like.

I was thinking of doing English with a concentration in technical writing, but I heard stem is the only way. I am beyond terrible in math, I had to finesse my way to where I am now because I'm so bad, but I'm a very good writer, it just comes natural to me and always has. I want to major in something that aligns with my strengths, but they said you'll be working in Starbucks with that degree.

Can I really get a good job with that ?

Im having anxiety right now about picking a stem major.

Can someone please explain to me why economics is over-rated? Maybe its because I live in London(a place with a huge financial sector and plenty of financial jobs) but I thought economics graduates make bank in consulting, banking, actuarial science etc. In fact the most profitable degree in the whole of the UK is an economics degree from the London school of Economics with 25% of graduates making 6 figures within 3-4 years of graduation. I'm so confused.

Biology is overrated unless you plan on going to some kind of post baccalaureate school(phd, med school, pharm school etc)

econ is overrated and underrated at the same time.

engineering can be overrated imo

All I'll say is I wish them luck. I used to invest in kids but I finally established boundaries and a true lack of concern for when their parents allow them to overstep em. People will "do anything for their kids" but get them the help they really need since they don't believe in certain forms of social work/psych.
