I did that purposely cause Mos Def the person you are saying showed more potential than Big considers Biggie GOAT Status. Look this myth that NY is the only people that think Biggie is the GOAT is something people try to say to discredit Big. Big gets love all over the world. His rhymes are bitten by every single region including West Coast. Mos Def wouldn't even co-sign your thread. Why not just do a thread and big up Mos? Why bring Biggie into it? You know why, cause like I said, Biggie is the Standard. You could of compared Mos to any rapper, why Biggie? This is my point it's like some fans are upset Big is GOAT status like he didn't drop 2 of the greatest rap albums of all time. Dudes need to let it go. It's 15 years later, there's a reason Big Legend is still growing.
First of all stop asking questions then filling the answers in for yourself. You look like a dumb ass:upsetfavre:

I have not once tried to discredit anything Biggie accomplished. I'm saying there are people that have accomplished more or the same amount and receive not even half of the credit that he gets and thats a problem. Like I said, even when he was alive Ghost had more great albums with his name attached to it and he STILL isn't considered to be better then him years laters? Thats the problem. Thats why I think Biggie is on a pedestal.

This thread was influenced by that other new york thread btw. I didn't pull Biggie out of thin air so I could tarnish his legacy:stopitslime:

Mos is in my top 5. He would get a lot more respect from others if he didn't spend so much of his career acting. A lot of people know him from tv and movies more than music.

Then why isn't Big Pun and Big L always on these lists? Pac gave us numerous classics why he was alive and had a pretty damn good career so I'm not mad at anyone putting him on the list at all even if they give him a nod for the potential he had.

some people do put them up on their lists (shout out to dude that posted after you)

Biggie's always gonna come out on top of the consensus, because he had more successful songs than those dudes. but personally I don't think Biggie has enough work to be considered in the discussion :manny:

Look I'm not saying you are tarnishing his legacy, I'm only saying that again the thread could of been done without even mentioning Big cause I think you can make a strong argument about Mos being an under-rated emcee who doesn't get his props. On that point I agree, "Black Star" and "BOBS" are both very quality rap albums with amazing replay value till this day. As for the Ghost Argument, nobody would debate I think Ghost not having a solid catalog cause in my view he does but as an emcee I believe most would say he's not seeing Big. It is what it is. Big just had that impact. I think people need to stop focusing on "Big only had 2 albums, why is he on this pedestal" and look at what those 2 albums did to the game. But I don't want to derail your thread cause again I think Mos Def doesn't get his credit as an emcee, I'm a huge fan.

mos def was never a better rhymer then biggie imo way shape or form imo

nah

I'll put the two tracks mentioned up against any NY emcee lyrically. It's not like Mos wasn't there in the late 90's either, he ripped that Bush Babees album, was great on Stakes Is High, etc.

I don't think Black Star's album is better than Ready to Die, but tracks like Respiration, Definition, Thieves in the Night are up in that same plateau in terms of quality IMO.

:salute: for mentioning the Mighty Mos Def. As controversial as your claim is, I'ma have to agree with you. Mos Def's first album was in fact BETTER than Ready to Die.

:rudy:

black on both sides is a classic but c'mon man

yeah right nikka.

His debut came out in 1999 (13 years ago) and sold over half a million copies in a year.

All the people that bought it were skinny jean hipsters?

You don't remember these?

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFyTzjJDeCk"]mos def ms fat booty - YouTube[/ame]

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5vw4ajnWGA"]Mos Def - Mathematics - YouTube[/ame]

his second best selling album came out in 2009 and did nowhere near the numbers, which is the direct opposite of what should have happened had iphone-release-camping-skinny-jean lovers carried his torch.
