Mortal Kombat could use a good origin story. They could make something similar to Shaolin Monks, but have it tell the story of the events pre-Mortal Kombat. It's so much that has been mentioned in passing, but never expanded upon. There was Mortal Kombat Konquest in the 90's, but none of that was canon and there were characters like Kabal, Sub Zero, and Scorpion in the same time frame as the Great Kung Lao (ancestor of Kung Lao). Up until MK11, the Great Kung Lao had only been referenced, now Kung Lao can summon him via one of his move sets. There is still no real detail surrounding him though. Also, there's a lot that they could do with the following characters:
- Queen Sindel: before she committed suicide and was ruling Edenia alongside King Jerrod
- King Jerrod
- Shao Kahn: him taking control from Onaga to rule Outworld and conquering other realms
- Shinnok- it would be epic to see the war between him and the elder gods
- Argus, Taven, Daegon, Delia and Rain
- Onaga
- Raiden
- Elder gods
