Empire strikes back
I think (not 100% sure) its the formulaic nature of getting an open shot for a three, where its very similar with many teams.I legit don't understand the obsession with HATING 3 point shooting. It's obviously more efficient, we've heard the countless explanations of the analytics.
Talking aesthetic appeal, I don't see why anyone would think the AVERAGE crowd fan wouldn't find higher tempo games with long-distance shooting to be more exciting. The build-up/anticipation watching a longer shot is clearly more exciting than a shorter attempt. Tracking the ball to the basket is going to be far more interesting, to most fans, than watching: post footwork, elbow jumpers, baby hooks, or even iso dribble moves.
NBA offense should not be 100% three pointers, and it isn't. The stars and elite players still have a full arsenal. Giannis just damn near scored 60, with two 3 point attempts. It's just expected, to make the NBA now that you can shoot the 3. Otherwise you need some serious specialty to justify your roster spot.
but this is also a thing that stemmed from making team more efficient and needing to score more points
the biggest disconnect is that in modern sports and competition any small edge is crucial, therefore efficiency will always trump aesthetics
it isnt exclusive to NBA either. soccer went from a lot of stars who all had their own style, to much more team-oriented game where everyone is doing the same thing and while its effective it lacks charm and magic of the old days
football is probably the only sport where the most aesthetically pleasing plays to a casual viewer are the same as most efficient ones - and the league went out of its way to make sure everything is biased towards offenses and passing the ball
